I'll put in a review of a book I'm currently reading, "Rising Tide: The Untold Story of the Russian Submarines that Fought the Cold War." It is a very well documented, interesting book. The book introduces the reader to submarine history from all nations. It gives good information about American & German subs during WWI and WWII, and how the Russians captured German subs and plans. It compares the various classes of US and Russian subs during the Cold War. One of the things the book emphasizes is the devaluation of the Russian submariners by the Admirals. There were numerous incidents of subs sinking with loss of all hands and radiation exposure that caused many deaths. The Admirals would place blame on the sub's skipper or/and crew. If anyone is interested in the subject, I highly recommend the book. 5 star rating.

I just finished another interesting book regarding submariners and the cold war. The book "Crazy Ivan" is written by a submariner who was a weapons officer, Navy diver and photographer. What I found interesting is the fact that one of the subs this guy was on, was deapth-charged by the Ruskies after it was detected on a recon mission. The book is a good read.

That was on our required reading list when I made Chief. Good book. Many of the points eluding to Project Borescope are very accurate. We were doing some crazy stuff to keep the USSR in check throughout the 80's.
