That is one sexy rig. Is Chrysler doing the same retro thing Ford did with the Mustang ? I love the looks of those new Mustangs. I had a 69 Mach 1 in high school. Of course now I wish I'd never sold it, but then again there's a good chance I wouldn't have reached my current ripe old age if I'd kept it! Poor self control and that sort of thing...

I don't get it myself, I can't imagine much sales with todays fuel costs.

I was just watching the news last night and it looks like the Camaro is actually gonna make it to market to compete with the Mustang. The Challenger was still under consideration.
I was hoping they would've chosen the 'Cuda myself. Always wanted one. :(
Learned to drive in a 300... later owned a '68 Roadrunner and then a '69 Charger... but always wanted a 'Cuda :(

I can't fault the quality of japanese cars. I own some, and generally prefer them. HOWEVER... I grew up on big fast chunks of DETROIT STEEL. It's a damn shame this country lost global dominance in an industry we practically invented. I bet Detroit would be in a lot better shape today if they had been styling sexy cars like these retro pony cars all along. I hope they can pull it off.

I think they'll get smart. The newer styling and bringing back the muscle cars will be a boost I suspect. I only hope they stay true to the lines. Could you imagine if someone build an ACTUAL 1969 Charger or 1970 Cuda with today's economy and materials?
I think they've definitely got more attention span recently. I just hope it's not too late for them. I heard on the news a couple of days ago that Google made more more last year, than the Big 3 automakers... COMBINED!
... and Google produces nothing... :(

I chose a 4 year hitch in the Navy and left the 64' Corvette behind, the party lifestyle in the Navy got me in nothing but trouble but I know now, I wouldn't have survived the Corvette the way I was goin.. :argh

From everything I have heard you can expect 2009 to be a lot like 1967.
It looks like the pony cars are coming back, everything old is new again.
I love the retro styles from the big 3. 8)

Yep, they figured out that thos of use who drooled over these cars in the 60s and 70s (and survived) are old enough now to be able to buy them. I had a 71 Challenger and loved that car, luckily I sold it before stupidity put me in the grave. I will be buyin' one when they come out in 2009. (I am being optimistic).

Didn't see an hybred option on the SVT Mustang
But your right - the reason Ford won the pony car war, was because of all the 6 cylinder sales. GTs and SVTs are a small % of total Mustang sales!

Does anyone know what the Chinese made cars will be called? I bet they are made better than a KIA. I wonder what percent of the metal in the cars is derived from recycled American junk steel?
Several years ago I purchased some Chinese made surgical instruments. The best instruments are made in Germany and the worst junk is made in Pakistan. If German stainless instruments were rated at 100, I'd rate the Chinese instruments at 95 and they were about 2/3 the cost of the excellent quality German stuff.

I have a friend that bought a KIA for his daughter. Out the door for $9000 including tax, license and 7 year service contract. She has free roadside towing, maintenance and loaner. If she breaks it, or it needs an oil change... she calls KIA.
He loves it. He's a real gearhead and this takes a load off his back. Been a reliable car from what I saw of it. It was the little stripped down Sephia model. Cute little car for a college kid.

Don't be looking down on Kia or Hyundai..they are right with Nissan and Mitsu for reliability. Maybe better. The new Dodge Caliber ( Neon replacement) is sporting an all Hyundai power plant for '06...the world keeps getting smaller. I remember when Hyundai built their first real motor, the Mitsu design wasn't reliable enough for them.

Nice reading and as on many other occassions I agree with Gene.
From 17 august 2005 I own a Hyundai Tucdson and I must say it is probably the best car I ever owned. Btw Kia is owned by Hyundai and sells the exact car under their name the Kia sportage. This post made me look back into the past. First experience with a car was when being a kid and my moms family who owned and still owns a Shipyard in the North of our country came over to Amsterdam to visit us. (we are the poor branche). They picked me up from elementery school in a deep green Buick. I was the hero of that day as I was allowed to take some friends with us for a drive. This happened 1949 or 1950 just after WW II and every thing was still very sparingly (sp) available.
Cars were for the Rich then. Looking back I drove the French brands Citroen, Peugeot, and Renault all in a wide variety of models. German cars, GM owned Opel, VW, Audi and BMW. Japanese Mazda and now a Korean Hyundai and also we (the wife)have the Brittish Rover 75.
Top notch of those upper middle class were the Renault Safrane, the Rover 75 and now the Hyundai. Hyundai gives me 3 years of unlimitted warranty and free assistance all over Europe. Always I had to go back to the dealer after deliveryof a brand new car, also with the 3 Audi's and the BMW 316, but I haven't seen the dealer of my Hyundai yet. :D
The worst was with the Peugeot 506 within 10 minutes I was back at the dealer not knowing that this car had started it's self destruction from the moment it left the dealers garage.
The first chinese SUV named the Landwind was tested over here and the absolute autority that did it said never they have seen a more dangerous car. Protecting European car brands? I don't know.
