Recently I've read and heard more dialogue regarding Iran developing nuclear weapons. The new Iranian president is thumbing his nose at the UN and any civilized nation that expresses concern. If I remember correctly, Israel bombed an Iraqi facility that was supposedly developing nuclear capability. A question for the erudite folks on this board: Do you think there is much chance of Israel bombing Iranian nuclear development facilities? With Sharon out of the leadership at this time, is there much chance of civil termoil in Israel that would lead to a more aggressive approach toward Palestine and Iran?

I dunno... I learned a long time ago that anything is possible in that part of the world. The Israelis are certainly not wasting any time getting the first article testing done on their Arrow II anti-missile missile systems. They just scored their first hit last week.

There is a lot of speculation going on in that part of the world about the US going into Iran. I hope it's all just saber rattling.

Did you get load of this guy on the news the other day... not related to the events in the Gulf... but pretty cool:

I'd hate to see the US step into deeper kimshi.

I remember quite well Jimmy Carter's debacle of the Iranian hostage situation. It was interesting that the hostages were released the morning President Regan was inaugurated. Evidently, they didn't like the idea of a cowboy president who probably would have taken action.

What concerns me is the instability of oil production and a perceived oil shortage. The price of oil would skyrock again.

That is one of the Sea-Based X-band (SBX) Radars and it is currently in Pearl Harbor HI. right now.

I saw this quote in an industry article today:
In order to hit a 3 foot object going near 15,000 miles per hour with another 3 foot object at the same speed, you have to see the object first.

So the Sabres are going to need to get pretty sharp.

I was just reading not too long ago that they've been able to knock down 4" artillery rounds with lasers now. I think we'll be seeing a lot of this stuff being hit from space based high-energy lasers and/or particle weaponry.

From what I recall reading recently, Israel does not have the capability to fly that far w/o refueling support and/or overfly clearances... So if we help them.... ouch!

And Iran just signed a Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty on 9 Jan which opens the way for snap UN inspections of suspect sites...

OK, I'm bad... Israel just took delivery of its first F-16I... It can reach Iran and come home w/o refueling... the plot thickens...
