Don't know about Skagit but one of my customers grows tulips here and brought the admiral by a big bouquet yesterday.

It might be too late if you don't get a move on Doug. They're expecting this to be an early season.

If you want some nice tulips, I think that if you ask
Roel real nice, he might send you some bulbs ....

There are so many different types it is hard to keep
up with them.

The Admiral loves them, and we have them planted
all over the place to come up starting in April, right
on through the late ones in September.

They are hardy, and in the Northeast, we have had
basically no problem with the bulbs in the winter.

I just returned from the Netherlands, spending most
of the month of March there, and they were starting
to come out in full force about 2 weeks ago.

I met up with Roel and DutchWavehopper (Frans) for
a night out in Old Amsterdam, and we had a great time.
I think we drank most all the beer in Amsterdam the
night that we went out.

I meant to ask Roel if he lived in a molen, (windmill) and
wore his klomps (wooden shoes) while he was working in
his garden of tulips

We have the largest exporter of tulip bulbs in the world outside Holland right here in the Skagit Valley. They're world renowned for the hybrid work that goes on up there. Really amazing in the Spring. They're all Dutch farmers up there too.

Doesn’t everyone around here have a picture of you and your admiral sitting in the middle of the tulip fields? She told me it was mandatory! :D

We've made the obligatory trip to the poppy fields in Del Mar while in San Diego. I think once you've made one of those mandatory "romantic trips", you're grandfathered for future requirements in another state.

We live up in Anacortes and drove through Tulip area the other day. There are still some up, but a lot of them have already been topped. I'm sure there's still somethng to see, but not for much longer...

Good Luck

SS,

Did you work at the Whidbey Island NAS ? I spent a little
time in and out of there in the late 60's, it was concerning
the A-6A Intruders that were there ....

Were you familiar with Fleet Air Wings 8 and 10, and also
Attack Squadron 196 ??

Just curious, you spark some memories ....

Normally 2 things happen when you get older !!

1. You lose your memory

2. I forgot the other one

You'd be right at home up here in the spring Roel. The tulip farmers are all European farmers who came here to start their businesses. I read an article once that described hthis as the second best soil in the world for growing tulips and dafodils... It looks like you've got some of the #1.

Nice flowers. Ours are in full blown here too. I always get lazy and don't pull the bulbs and spilt them like I'm supposed to for the next year though. :)
