I'm just finishing the book "K-19". I haven't seen the movie, but the book is extremely revealing. The author is a retired USN Captain who is an authority on Soviet submarines during the cold war. The book details how poorly designed the nuclear reactors and cooling systems were on subs that were hurridly placed into active duty without thorough sea trials. Many Soviet Navy sailors died due to radiation exposure, but the public was never notified until the Kursk incident. The Captain of K-19 was a very good skipper who was well respected by his crew. His memoirs excerpted in the book are most interesting. ***** rating.
