Well, got a great deal on ebay for 8 ft of keelshield. It was one of those make offer bids or buy now... I researched the current sales they had and found the same item two months ago and decided to bid lowest accepted offer on that similar item... They accepted the bid for $90 so now I am stripping the bow 5"'s each side and 8 ft back. Since we are heading to Lake Powell this summer, we decided to get the keelshield stuff to protect the bottom when we run up the beach at the lake. Anyway, starrted this PM to remove the bottom paint... so far so good... I did try to grind the paint off but found that spray striper works faster and less dust too...

Concrete floor is a bit chilly but this is a quick prep job... after removing paint, I'll clean it all off with acetone before installing... will post more pics next week after I receive the new (Charcoal grey) keelshield...

Follow the instructs to the T and if you do the 3M stuff they include really makes that stuff stick. Key words are clean and dry! Great product esp. for what you want it for. :D

Pete, its a standard strip... Klean Strip is the name and it is intended for metal, wood, masonary. Not suppose to be for fiberglass but since I am using it on the bottom, it will not be a problem... I would not use it on an area that you will see cause it will probably eat through the gel coat. Cleans up/neutralizes with water...
Ted, yes, it is a 3M bonding agent on the keelshield so I have to ensure the area is totally clean and dry, hence the use of acetone to make sure I get most of the paint and contaminents removed. 3M is always my first choice anyway... worth the price...

Well, had the heaters working overtime to get the bottom of the boat to 70... took about 4 hours... http://www.iboatnw.com/gallery/data/media/12/keelplastic.JPG
Goes on easy but is a pain to get straight...

Looks straight to me... takes LOTS of pressure to ensure it stays put. Used a hair dryer to keep the product supple...

Now for a quick shower and maybe a night out at the local pub... ;)
Nice being a bachelor... even if it is temporary...
Tomorrow, I paint the bottom and finish installing XM antennae... pix to follow...

I know the feeling.....
God forbid, but if anything ever happened bad to my wife i would be a single man, at least until I was near 70. Nice to come and go when ya want, not answering to anybody- whoops, guess ya know who is boss.

My daughter's over there as well... coming home tomorrow night. I guess it's the time of year to be in Hawaii.
