Anyone know if there is a need to add anything to the standard prestone antifreeze when replacing all of it in a Diesel engine with a Copper Heat exchanger???

I just purchased new replacement Heat exchangers and I will be installing one of them on Thursday evening, (the stuff that came out looks clean as a whistle and I am quite sure it is Prestone (as when I bought the boat there was an extra 1/2 gallon in the engine room.

the engines are "Non sleeved" Detroit Diesel 8.2 litre 4 cycle V8's intercooled and turbo charged 250 hp.

Thanks,

Tim

Well a little more research came up with this very useful article on Marine Diesel Cooling systems and maintenance!

http://www.uaf.edu/seagrant/boatkeeper/coolants.pdf

It was compiled in 2000 so there may be some later info out there.
