I'm still new to fishing. I fished the end of last summer on lake washington. But now that my wife and I have gone through the locks a couple times I'm getting anxious to get some fishing in on the sound. I've got the pole and the line, just need some bait and any suggestions on where to go! I've got my fish finder good and working, but don't know what to go for or where to look!

From what I've been reading it looks like it might be a lack luster year for fishing, but I'm open to fish for anything. As long as I have a good chance of catching something. I'm looking for stuff I can keep, not throw back. I'm thinking I'd like to plan a nice long day trip for some friends and I. Any suggestions please!??

I'm thinking maybe next weekend . . .

Lackluster is all relative around here.

There isn't a huge polulation of resident fish here, so the opportunities to fish them are limited. The REALLY big deal fishing happens from mid-august through the last weeks of September. That's when the runs are returning. LOTs of fish at those times.

The odd-numbered years tend to be the big ones, but the fish are here every year. You just need to get good at targeting a specific species and working out your technique for each.

Turbo,

You might want to think of taking the Salmon U class coming up. They have speakers for two days and cover most saltwater species and techniques.

Spud,

Can you post some info links to the schedule? I would be interested as it has been 20 years since I fished for salmon in salt water (in Alaska) We got spoiled, would catch so many 50lb+ fish that Salmon fishing got to be to much work and made it really hard to bend your arm at the elbow when recovering at the watering hole after returning.

Fresh water Kings, silvers, Reds, and Chums is another story! Fun stuff, especially on flys!

The website is SalmonUniversity.com . You will find all the seminar information there and a whole lot more. I asked SS first if it was OK to give it out on this site and he was so kind to approve. Thanks Mike !
