My wife and I are thinking about heading to Port Ludlow this weekend if the weather is decent. I have the Waggoner Guide, but I wanted to check this this group to get people's thoughts on Port Ludlow. My wife and I typically like to tie up to bouy's or anchor. The Waggoner Guide mentions A little cove at the Southwest end of Port Ludlow. I see it on the charts. Is this a good place to anchor? The entrance looks a bit on the shallow side.

Port Ludlow harbor has a number of abandoned cables left over from logging left on the bottom. They are shown on the new gps stuff. I had been anchoring right where a couple of them were, unaware until someone posted it! The restaraunts are ok, but when it starts getting dark later make sure you get in before they close. We have brought our bikes and rode to Mats Mats, our recommendation for anchoring if you dont want to tie up to the dock. (matsmats is just around the corner). We might see you there as we might go Saturday and come home Sunday. If we dont go elsewhere.

We drove back there last year before last while waiting for friends to get underway. There is a little cove way back in the corner, and saw boats back in there while we wasted a few minutes. Looked pretty protected.

We have anchored in both the main harbor and in the little inner harbor. The inner harbor is great, but space is limited. In the main, we had been anchoring in the NW portion, by the pilings. Apparently we had been lucky, the last time, we snagged a cable. I was able to hoist the anchor & cable and got it clear, but could very easily have lost an anchor. From now on it's either the inner harbor, or we will try our luck in the SE portion of the main. Either way, this is a great anchorage. Very quiet and you don't have to deal with the floating wracks like in Eagle Harbor.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. We departed Saturday afternoon for Port Ludlow (departing from Elliott Bay Marine). Unfortunately, due to fairly rough conditions we aborted mission and went to the Blake Island dock for two nights. Saturday night was windy, but the rest of the weekend was nearly perfect. We will have to checkout Port Ludlow nexst time.
