OK, so I am watching the fishing network and seems a lot of competition game fishers use the bait casting reels which I have never used. I have always used spin reels for casting. What's everyones opinion on Cast verses Spinning reels?
Pros/Cons?

Spinning 'cause I never could educate my thumb well enough to make
the bait reels work. Spinners is just too easy!
Trolling for trolling.

I bought our daughter a pole and nice little Shimano open face when she graduated from high school. She loves to fish and the reel will last for many years. It is a great little reel. The finger trip bail release is quick and easy to use.

I think you need to be more specific about what you're trying to use it for. Open Face Spinning Reels are great for lightweight lures or where you need distance. Bait Casting Reels are harder to learn to use, but are about the only reel I'll use when drifting bait or where accuracy is important.
They can be a bear to learn to use with light tackle or tight areas... but head down to the river and you'll see pretty quickly what the grown ups are using. :)
I do keep a spinning reel handy for when I get that occasional birds nest.

Not a factor... I never intend to "grow up"... so there! 8)

Well, if I go with a spin reel, I was really thinking of a Penn Affinity 4000 or a Shimano Spheros SP6000FA but you can "see me down there" with whatever you want... I'lll take lots of pix of all the fish we catch... 8)

I've got two Shimano spinning reels. They're really easy to maintain and use, but for accuracy and presentation (especially around cover and in the rivers) I really like a bait casting reel.
It takes some getting used to, but it's well worth it.
