My old desk computer here has finally torked me off and I just bought a lap top over the net from Dell.
I dunno what is wrong with my computer lately but it seems to attract spyware, My Nortons security just opens wide up for em to come on in.
This last time I even bought the 07 version and bam, have it again. some trojan, spy.win 32 or some crap that wants ya to keep buying clean up software. I just had the puter in the shop and have spyware the same day. So no more money into this thing. Time to try another.
Tried downloading spybot search and destroy, but nope, still have the pop up annoyance.

oh, almost forgot I went ahead and got Vista since it is the new thing. Anyone else there yet? any good or bad?
The puter i have now I bought right when XP had came out, so it has served me pretty good.

Haven't made the jump to Vista yet. Looks pretty cool. Seem to run pretty good on your older hardware?

I'd hate to have to start upgrading again :(

I dropped Norton just for that reason. Seems Norton is a fav target of trojans and is easy to disable in the registry by them. So Norton will "look the other way" when or if it searches. If you can't get a live update, you know you got a registry hack going on. Its a long process sometimes to rid yourself of it by going to Symantic (Norton) and going through their clean up procedures manually...
I gave up on Norton even though I had the corporate edition and went with PC-cillian. But there are some great free antivirus programs to check out as mentioned here before. (AVG comes to mind)

Thanks, I will give Avast a try when i get home since it is free. Do I just do a goole search for avast? or can I be fooled by a look a like spyware program?

Make sure you get the personal use version. It's free. The professional (same features) will only last 30 days, and its difficult to "downgrade" from an expired professional trial version to the free personal version.

I run it on everything here. It's been great and I haven't had a virus problem in years.

WoW, great software. I had to run it twice but my problems are gone. I ordered that new computor to soon. Thanks for the tip.
