How many of you NW boaters have Boat U.S. memberships? I am looking at the renewal here on my desk and wondering if it is worth it. Do you think that they are a strong enough lobby for us to continue to donate. I have Towing ins. with my boat insurance policy so that is not a big deal. I don't mind donating if it is going to a good Lobby group. I get the mag, read the forums but just not sure that they are making a difference. What do you think? The cost is minimal but what are the benefits to us here on the west coast?

That's a good question Brian. I'm a member and have my boat insurance
with them. They were the best quote around and the best coverage for the
buck. We'll see next year.

But I wonder about how effective their lobbying is. Don' hear much except
from them so......?

If you hear anything, let me know.

We had Boat Us for many years, and always happy with the service...until last year. Got in a pi$$ing match with a very stupid girl on the phone over our wooden boat insurance. Switched over to Safeco, no complaints.

Towing in Puget Sound is best done with a Vessel Assist card.

I think Boat Us does a credible job of lobbying for "us" as well as the best complaint department going. They do get things done on defects and recalls. The also have some clout on the federal level as far as legislation goes.

Probably better to donate to them than the $10 Washington boater card.... 8)

Come on you guys, surely one of you will co sign for Ted. Where is the compassion. How did Ted hi jack this thread. It is obvious that the WA boaters card is more interesting than BoatU.S. That should tell me something.

Ted wil chime in with a better insurer than BoatUS... Vessel Assist will also be a good addition...

Yes Doug I will chime in with the company called "Boat Insurance Agency" they are boaters and have beat many a company for us. 1-800-828-2446 ask for Neil Booth. And yes I agree Vessel Assist is the one to call for tow service. :D

I should clarify. I do not need or use BoatU.S. for my insurance other than the tow benefit that comes with membership. I have Boat and additional Tow insurance squared away. My question should have been: Do you belong to BoatU.S. for the membership benefits. Reduced Moorage, fuel, etc. and do you feel that it is a useful organization?

I have unlimited tow insurance with them, it is cheap and just a safty measure in case I ever need it. I read the magazine but that is about it. As far as the benifits of reduced moorage discounts etc I don't think they have very many particpating marinas in the northwest.

I dont get it. Ted grilled Mike about how rich he was going to get with this website, but he writes a check for 10$ for a piece of toilet paper the size of a business card?

See Ted, I told you the card was worthless. You can't even wipe your ass with it! I rest my case. :)

The benefits of reduced moorage or fuel discounts from Boat US are worthless.

The magazine and giving to a worthwhile boating lobby are valuable commodities.

The thought of Ted being stuck in a toilet with no paper and just his Boater Ed card...priceless !

When you join or call vessel assist it is Boat US.

OK then... if we turn a $20 profit, I'll BUY us both licenses :)

Heck... maybe we should subsidize the licensing program for all IBoatNorthWest members. :)

I nominate Ted for the head of our new Licensing Division. I've divert some of the profits from my offshore accounts to cover it. :D

Alrighty then, I will send $10 to Ted, $10 to SS and $10 to BoatUS. That should just about cover it. Thanks all for your help. Lets move on.
