Well I took the plunge and ordered a Honda EU2000i today :D It should be here in 5 to 7 days. Now I can power the boat when I am away from shore power and use it for backup here at home next year when we lose power again. I guess the next setp is to move from two house batteries to four. Or perhaps since the inverter already has two batteries maybe I will just replace the two house batteries in the engine compartment.

Thats a Kipor and as Ted would always say Honda is the only way to go or something about a donkey?

But yes I got it for less than the Kipor you saw :D with free shipping, from mayberrys.

Good man Paul, you did well. I would put money into two more 6V batts for the inverter, also check with a tester the house batts, but two there is very standard. :D

Thanks Ted, I would have put the donky emoticon in but it is not a choice here. I think it should be added.

Maybe you could whip up some Kipor decals for his new Honda. That would really be a conversation starter...

I have avoided all of the threads concerning the two brands of genny's. Necessesity caused me to buy the Honda during the windstorm and am glad we did. This weekend was our first time using it to power the boat and unless we were running the water heater with it you could hardly tell it was on.

As for the kipor. My buddy bought one and while we were on the hard last month i was using mine to heat the boat and run power and so was he. I filled up once over a weekend and he did 3 times. Placed them about 20 feet apart and started them. standing over mine you could still tell the kipor was louder (this was at idle) and it only got louder with a load on it.

If someone wants to save some money and buy the kipor that is there decision. I resisted and am very glad that the Honda is mine. :)

BTW...we had the charger and water heater running at the same time with no problems of the honda.

Two winters ago I purchased the EU3000 and set it up with a multi-tap h/d Extension cord and used it to power the pellet stove, tV/DVD/Sat, microwave, and computer. It was warm toasty and could hardly hear it sitting outside the laundry room with the cord through the window. I plan on building/buying a full house transfer switch and wire it into the main 200amp panel giving me access to use whichever circuits I choose.

Note, since then the power has not even waivered and the I had to drain the gas and use it for the mower :P ( one can't go wrong with the Honda gensets, even if a little spendy.

Tim

PS: anyone have a good way to drain the gas out of an 85 gallon tank in the bayliner trophy "o/b model"(mine is getting old from lack of use and I would like to freshin it up?) My fuel line/filter is nearly 2ft higher then the bottom of the tank, doubt if I could get it to syphon all the way?

I syphoned a couple of tanks out of my 2355 with an ordinary piece of old hose. If you have a compressor close by and a blower... just get the hose in place like you're gonna syphon, and then cup over the opening and blow compressed air in between. You will slightly pressurize the tank and get an instant syphon. I took out a few tanks for the Jeep just to get room for fresh gas and it worked like a charm.

Mike,

Now why didn't I think of that?

It will be fun burning the cheap stuff in the "chorure tool"!!

Yeah... it's a good way to fill the mowers and Jeeps of the world. :)
