Spud taught me a trick he refers to as the "Halibut HotDog"... but I am very sure he has a few more tricks up his sleeve....

You bettcha ! So far this year landed 6 butts on the Hotdog. Make sure to use a lot of Shrimp Mustard in the syringe bottle !

Yummy.........can't wait !

Only been out fishing once this year for halibut. Go blown off of the water and no fish. This weekend will be better. Need to catch a halibut large enough that it stays on the ladder at the end of Sunday.

Off to Port Angles Friday AM for the weekend. Hope to catch up with Nelson and check out his new boat.

I was sitting next to Spud on his gorgeous new toy when he last posted. Spud is one heck of a guy... he shared with me his knowledge of halibut fishing and fed me fresh halibut to boot!
I didn't even leave the dock on Sunday due to the winds.... there were white caps in the marina! Spud went out and confirmed the conditions were crap. Thankfully they made it back safe and I had the pleasure to meet his family that evening. We shared a great meal and many stories!
Monday we stopped on the way back and fished off Pt. Townsend and I finally got my first halibut! It weighed about 20lbs and measured 35".
Thanks again Spud!!

Yeah Spud's a charactor. He'll definitely keep you fed and give ya the straight skinny on what it takes to catch fish around here.

Spud; was just bragging at the local fishing store here at Lake Stevens (Greg's) when I saw a stack of Katch Koolers sitting there. Greg thought they were the cat's meow, and I got tell him "I know the guy that..." ;)

Stopped by the Fishtale 2 on Friday afternoon. That's one nice boat.

Between 5 of us fishing from my friends 280 Carver, we only caught two dog fish on Saturday. Sunday we woke to winds 25 to gale 35. Not very many people left the marina to fish. After about an hour we had all we could take and got blown off of the water.

Monday was nice. We went down towards Green Pt and didn't catch anything other than a gotmeon. No matter how you cook these criters they stay really tough.

No fish blood on the boat this weekend.

Anthony, I am sure your fish was closer to 30 pounds. You may want to try
the SPUDMETER SCALE next time ! It was a great trip no doubt and your time was due.....and your a backyard chef to boot like me. The ribs and asparagus were fantastic with the fresh hali !

SS, thanks for the kind words. I love to show people how to fish, where to fish, what to use and maybe throw in a freshly tied up rig to the real needy. (right Anthony). Makes me feel good when they come back to the dock with some fishies in a KatchKooler of course.

Take Care,

Spud

They're a Spud invention. Ripstop nylon material, insulated with leak-proof zippers. It's divided into two sections inside. One for ice, the other for fish.

I carried a 23 pound King on my shoulder and onto the ferry two years ago. Fish stayed ice cold and no leaks. VERY cool thing to have, especially if you're guest fishing or on a charter where you don't wanna lug a chest.

I use mine on the rivers. Great for keepinga couple of pops cold and hauling fish out. You can buy them at most fishing stores now locally.

I'll talk to Spud and maybe we can get some online.

Mike,

I'd be happy to get you some at cost. However, I think the shipping would be high. Maybe at a rendevous I could get you some for the members to buy.

Now that sounds like something I've been needing! I'd love to buy one, or maybe two, so how do we do that?

When will you be in Port Townsend next, Spud???

Thanks,
Pete

Spud,
Are you moving the Fishtale to it’s new digs this weekend?

SPUD
05-31-2007, 03:39 PM
Yup,

Tomorrow at around 2 pm we will be moving in ! Can't wait to get out of my current slip....way too much current.

Put the 3rd downrigger on and wired the 4th. Thinking about hitting the bubble.

Pete, not sure when I will be in PT but I'll let you know.....it won't be too long.

Spud you should try our slip on a windy, high current, busy boating day. At least now I don't sweat docking anywhere else.
Enjoy your new dock!
