OK, looks like we are a go for Saturday 7 Jan 2006. Seems like most can do it that day over the others.

Outdoor Emporium has OK'd us for setting up in the West end of their lot just like last year from about 8:30-9:00 until we head over to the show.

So far here's who can make it:

SOMESAILOR (Mike)
WEBJAMMIN (Bob)
NUMBKNOTS (Tim)

And those that won't be there: :(

GOAWEIGH (Doug)
TEDSTER (Working da show)
SPUD (Nelson)

If anyone has any ideas on stuff to bring, we can get a shopping list going here:
POP UP CANOPY: Tim?
BBQ: SomeSailor
BRATS & BUNS: SomeSailor
HOT APPLE CIDER: SomeSailor
COFFEE: SomeSailor

Other stuff: Sodas, paper plates, forks, fixins, condiments, side dishes, paper towels.

Now I need everyone to repost their thoughts a preferences for where and what time to meet. Also what area we plan to park and eat...

Here's the link to this years SEATTLE BOAT SHOW! (http://www.seattleboatshow.com)

Sounds great Doug. Getting off to an early start is important. I've made you a moderator in this forum so you can edit posts and prune the fluff off to keep this managable. Last year we had nearly 1000 posts JUST regarding the boat show.

I'll add my name to those who'll be there on your original post and bring some homemade bratwurst to grill.

I am a gamer on the 15th, anywhere, anyplace?
I can come early/stay and gladly bring a large barbeque if we find a place to set it up? Never done this before so just give me a job to do and I be getting on it!

- Extra large cooler (used on lg. white water raft)
- Bar-B-Que (very portable)
- EZ Pop up canoy (about 10X10)
- Buns for the Brats
- Maybe some Dungee crabs (if the season is still open down here in #13)

Thanks but not on my account. I'll just get there the next day or so...

12-16-2004, 07:05 AM
I'm up for any day. I would be concerned that a Friday would keep people from being able to make it, but one saturday is as good as another. Is there anyone else who would be affected by a Saturday swap?

I'd be just as happy with the 2nd Saturday anyway. Gotta see Doug , I have a couple of Gregoire tee shirts for him...or is that several...I'll have to count them again...

12-16-2004, 08:32 AM
Don't worry if you don't have enough to go around when you get there... I'm sure we'll be able to FIND some more... :)

So.... will the other Saturday work for everyone? We can't let Doug off the hook this easy... :D

12-17-2004, 07:14 PM
I will be there on Friday, Jan 21 working in the United States Power Squadrons booth . Stop by and say hello.

Hello Doug and Mike,

So where are you going to meet? I too have a pop-up 10 X 10 cover if you want me to bring it. What shall I bring to the feast?

12-20-2004, 07:14 AM
Doug's the honcho on this one.

When he gets bc from NY, maybe we can start solidifying a place to meet. We were talking about meeting at the Boats Afloat lot... or even better atteh Outdoor Emporium (can spend money there for sure!)

01-01-2005, 09:29 AM
How about the 15th?

The 22nd doesn't look as good for us. Where are we gonna meet then? At the Boats Afloat or at Outdoor Emporium (I hear Spud can get us 50% off anything that day) :D

Gettin' close...

SPUD
01-01-2005, 10:06 AM
Let me know if you want me to talk to O.E. about a spot in their parking lot.

You think they'd let us use a few spots? I know you've go some contacts and that would guarantee us some cookin' space :)

So.... we're go for the 15th? I wanna do my tickets online again... I really like that Sea magazine. It's a pretty good rag.

Mike,

Do you want me to call O.E. for the 15th. . I could ask for a couple of spaces for a 10x10 tent for a specific period of time. To be honest, I don't know what they would say.........but I'll give it a shot if you want.

Or does anyone have another idea ???

Spud

01-04-2005, 09:13 AM
Spud;

If youn could ask them if it would be OK to use a corner, that'd be great. We're thinking about trying to come down on the train that morning. Two fun things in one day. :)

Never been to Outdoor Emporium either... yet another place to spend money... :)

Numbknots
01-04-2005, 07:47 PM
Heck I thought Ted would be bringing up SS's Boat with a tent attached for the raffle we are planning to have for it?? SS last chance to get the personal stuff off the boat :D

I have a 10 x10 as well if we find a spot to set up and a definite meeting place.

Tim

Tedster
01-04-2005, 09:38 PM
With the way I have been selling used boats of late SS could already have his money in his hand by then, course I would have to have his boat here first now wouldn't I?! Ted

01-04-2005, 10:07 PM
I've still got some other stuff to get cleaned up on it Ted... and no... I don't want to try to sell a boat when it's 22 degrees outside... I'll get it done. It's really not a press from a money point of view. I spend more on model airplane fuel and mochas each month than my measly boat payment. :)

Tedster
01-04-2005, 10:14 PM
I was just rubbing ya since someone else started the rubbing above.....get it? Ted :D

01-05-2005, 08:55 AM
I know Ted. You've been "rubbing" a bit yourself these past few days. :)

I did make a trip out there last night and scrounged up some more stuff. It's low on my priority list, but definitely on there. I'm out 10% of my hotel reservations if I go to Friday Harbor by boat as it is. :)

I figure I'll give the reservations to whoever buys the boat (and a free membership on IBoatNW.com) :D

01-07-2005, 08:17 PM
Well here's hoping you guys decide to make the deal happen on the 15th ...Jan and I will be staying at the Silver Cloud that night ....doing the inside show on Sat and Floaters on Sunday then the manditory stop at IKEA on the way home. I'll be keeping an eye out for the location...can't add any suggestions as I have no knowledge of possibilities.....except they did say that if the inside parking was full to park behind the hotell maybe just park a few rigs in the alley

Gene: Just bought a New Beetle with a diesel (2002) do you think one of those Nitrous set ups would be a valuable addition?? Also noticed they always used synthetic oil....is that a requriement on these?

I am planning on coming up to Oly on Friday, (installing 50amp shore power) and wittleing away on a few more projects) then coming up to Seattle early on Saturday Morning for the Show (all day) I would be more then happy to bring anything that we could use? if anyone has a spot and a plan? I have only met a few of you guys so I am kinda at a loss (have only been to the inside show last year) and then before that when it was at the King dome?

Tim

So who's planning to be there on Saturday the 15th??

01-08-2005, 07:57 AM
Yeah... we'll have to maked a decision on where to meet. I think we might be taking the train down from Everett (something fun to do). Let's see if Spud figures out a parking situation at Outdoor Emporium and go from there.

I'm just bought my ticket online and plan to be there the 15th....However, not sure where we are meeting or who's bringing what.

I see Doug started a list on "who's who" in the opening post for this article.
Doug, are you going to update it?

It might also me a good idea if we all had each others cell phone numbers.

I'm looking forward to hearing from someonetelling us where we will meet. If the "tailgatter" doesn't work out at the "Boats Afloat" location, we might as well all meet in the main parking area where we have in the past.

Even thought we can't have a "tailgatter"in the main lot, we could all meet to arrange lunch together somewhere and then go to the show.

Outdoor Emporium (about a 30,000 sq ft outdoor gear retailer) is about
2 blocks from the Mariner stadium right off I-5 right next to Filson's (outdoor gear retailer). Address is 1701 4th Ave South. They have a big parking lot.

Whadda think SS ?

There is an OE in Portland OR and they have a large inventory and pretty reasonable prices. They seem to be in "sale" competition with both Fishermans and GI-Joes here at least.

I did find that their camping department was better stocked and the sales help was much better informed then at the other two competitors. (They have been here for about a year and there is no (sales tax in Oregon) (and please don't start on that subject)

How about Channel 11 for now, we can change it once we all get there??

For you all that done this before, how much time do we want to spent shooting the S#%@t in the parking lot of OE, how much time at the indoor show and then to the Lake? Seems that we should plan on no more then 1-1:30pm at OE?????

Looks like it is going to be rather chilli in the AM? (so spice up the chilli) We could make some hot apple cider that could be doctored to cut through the chill?? My Crab cooker should keep her heated up and I will bring the mix and a couple 5's of water if "all ya all" want me to? (notice I am working on my southern accent for you all Northern boys).

Yesterday I spent $7 for ticket, $7 parking to go to the "WASTE OF TIME" Portland Boat show!! It was all catered to wakeboarders, and river boats.

Barb and I wanted to thank everyone for the good time. The chili was mmmmmmmmmm. Really hit the spot. Sorry we had to take off so soon, we had a "emergency" we had to take care of for Barbs son. (put money into his bank) It was nice to put a face to some of you. Thanks again, Gary

It was really good meeting you also. Putting names on new faces and catching up with some of the old time mugs is always fun too. Thanks again for everyone taking the time to make it by. The food was great, weather cooperated and all went well. Thanks Spud for getting us such an easy location and tell dave at OE thanks for us all.

OK... so who bought a boat?

Megga Ditto's@!

Fun time, meeting the "names" on the board. The Indoor show was great, It was certainly hugggggggge. I am not sure I ever saw it all. Ted, you were in top form, selling SS look alike boats :D :D, Thanks To Spud I found my cell phone buried in my own coat. Bob, good luck on finishing up your private pilots license, you and SS should come down and I will give you a sample of what a "cub" can do?

Gene, Glad I could help deliver the railings to Sunnydude, he was appreciative.

Oh yeh, Tim (the other one) Thanks for showing me the way to OE, heck I always wanted a tour of the guts of Seattle!!

See you all on the water soon,

Tim

Darn that chili was good!! Still with me :mumum: Now I know why you have the fastest boat on the sound, It was probably forced on you so you could get further upwind!! :pottytrain5:

Dave, Thanks for the use of the Lot, the "tokens" and trust some of the guys/gals helped pay the rent!

I sure hope that " Boat Salesman" found his way to the Show? We should have a WIFI feed to the show with video link next year right SS. Heck Ted, if you get that salesman trained you could join us. (If I can find my Cell phone) we could call in an order for more Schnops to nip the chill!

Fun time,

Tim

We did that year before last. I was sending pictures up to BOC as things went along. Was fun :)

I've had the computer in there for better than a year now, but didn't have a decent LCD devoted to it. Not it's all functional. Got the GPS working today and was out wardriving. Found 135 open access points on a trip to Blockbuster and back. Talk about your maroons... :?

when I was in New Orleans, I checked my email by driving into thehousing area on base... Found many unsecure sites to tap. I found a couple of very fast ones and that is where I parked... Didn't stay too long though. didn't want to ruffle anyone or think I was there checking out the "hood".

There is some pretty neat software out there... and if you're not afraid of Linux... even cooler stuff available. Don't think for even a sec that it's at all secure. 8)

the ADM bought (me???) a wireless finder for a couple of bucks. Just push the button and it lights of a chain of green lights as the strength of the signal gets stronger. It worked pretty good. I still used my laptop to verify if it was open or secure.

We are thinking of coming back this weekend. We boated down last weekend but only got to see the shows for a few hours on Sunday.
IboatNW members should consider boating to the Bell Harbor Marina for the first weekend of the boat show next year. The marina is only a quick trolley ride to the Qwest Exhibition Center.

That's a good suggestion by "Never Again II".....IBNW boaters to boat to the show next year and meet at Bell Harbor Marina. We could have a real neat tailgater there, before taking the trolly to the show.
Those who have to drive a car could meet us down at the docks.

On the other hand, it was really handy at the OE parking lot. I think I bought more "goodies" in their store than I did at the show.

A couple of folks did that the first year... but by the time you brave the elements... it's hardly worth the effort. :|

I hear there is a fire sale at the boats afloat

I can't belive that somebody show/selling a 61' boat would leave a space heater on over night.

My Prop guy (John Halll @ premier propellers) said it was right accros from him and it did toast that 61 footer pretty good.

I would hate to be tht salesman

good thing they got it fast too. Could have been one heck of a front page headline... Guess the good news is it would have burned "just" to the waterline.

I would love to get to the Floating show next year. It is certainly at least a 2 day event. We could do both, OE and the Dock party at Bell Harbor. Heck by the time I got all around the Event Center, there was no way I could have made it to the Lake the same day. Definetly a Dream Builder in the Electronics department!

It amazes me how little money folks are willing to spend protecting their M/Y's from freeze. It really takes very little to keep all areas that have water about freezing. Last week I was walking the docks at OLY and I saw two "space" heaters running unattended?

Tim, you are correct. Most people need to only run a small "marine dryer" style. (Just a warming plate inside the cover). I use one that has no fan. (I can just picture that little fans bearings failing just as I leave for the day/night).

If someone were to use a space heater, at least they should use an adjustable temperature ceramic type that turn off if they fall over. We only run one when sleeping on board and keep it low but that even gets us too warm.

What's this about a space heater and boat fire? We went to Spokane last night, came back tonight and haven't heard anything.

So, is the meet still on for the 15th or the next weekend ??

Check out the first post of this thread.

I'll keep updating it as we get closer. We'll get an early start so we can catch up and get our bellies full of brats before we head over... :)
