Poulsbo eventually filled up, I still do not like that yacht clubs hog an entire half of the marina and then their members do not show and boaters get turned away, You would think the commodores would be more accommodating, but such is life on the water these days.
The weather was good until Sunday then it poured rain, I guess other locations around the sound missed out on the rain and had wind (Oak harbor ) or just over cast skys (down south). We sat around the boat and watched movies for the better part of the day, I was ready for a party breather anyways.
At least I got my Poulsbo fix again, now I am ready for some more quiet time anchoring type outings.
Was great water on the ride home yesterday, we got an early start around nine a.m. to beat out the crowds, plus it gave us some clean up time when we got home.

My wife was sick and we never made it to Poulsbo. When did it fill up? If we got there at noon on Saturday, could we have gotten a slip?
I did manage to drag her out with our son and a couple of his friends on Saturday for a 4 hour cruise around Lake Union, Ship Canal, Ballard, and Lake Washington.
BTW - I don't think anyone should complain about wakes unless you are in a Narrow Channel with restricted room or in a No Wake zone.

Around the house chores, but saw the new Pirates of the Carribean. Good flick.

Not for your size beam Rob that I seen around us, The YC's on E dock had a double open but heard they were still in holding pattern with it.
Brian and Tina showed up (Wings) on Friday around noon and got a double open on F dock and I think it may have been the last double open at that point with around maybe 10 to 15 open slips that he could have got his boat into along side a smaller beam boat.

Had a great time this weekend Brad. Was looking forward to (finally) meeting you Rob, hopefully another time. This was our maiden voyage to Poulsbo, bought our 38 there but hadn't had a chance to return. That's an alcohol-fueled dock, and town for that matter. Was fun. Wish I could have had your neighbor's buzz Saturday night, "no pain Wayne". He was entertaining.

Went to Laconner Thursday night - Windy as all get up but we pretty much had the whole guess dock to land on so no drama.
Off to Friday Harbor next morning - pea soup fog!! Added about an hour to the trip flying IFR thought Blakley channel. Cleared up by the time we where at Obstruction pass and got to FH just fine.
Weather was a bit chilly and windy at times but no rain and we just spent most of the time relaxing on the boat.
Did win twice in the American Legion meat draw - They Booed me!
Yesterday was the best day on the water- back to POE
Saw Tally and Vic, and the Lady Di was there but never got a chance to say hello!

We wound up at Port Orchard and enjoyed a quiet weekend. Had guests on both Saturday & Sunday, saw some fireworks from west of Bremerton. With the wind & rain Sunday, it was pretty much books, movies, & board game day.
I agree about Poulsbo. We like the town, but the docks can be a bit too much of a full out party for us. I think we will save it for our winter boating needs. I noted that Port Orchard refuses reservations on holiday weekends - I assume this is to prevent a YC overtake or no-show vacancies. Either way, there was room at the dock for us and a peaceful weekend.

One of the very best reasons to join a yacht club is that you do have a slip reserved when you get there. I once felt the same way you guys do until I joined one, now I just have fun! You know what they say....if you can't beat them....join them!!

Wound up anchoring with another 32, 45, 38, 39 and a 40 something Tolly out at Strech Island. Had way to many fresh clams and way to much Gin and Tonic on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Spent the rest of the time watching the tide go in then out. We needed a nice quiet weekend.

Brian,
What I do not understand about "no pain Wayne" is how he gets up the next day and does it again.
I would like to say I have never been there but I have .
I told Becky I have seen enough of Poulsbo now for awhile, was there with the Roche harbor club in early May and then last weekend. Time for some quieter boating.
I did help a couple boaters out though, Herb with his 3988 wanted to buy another tender and I told him about Scotts Avon with the unihelm and 4 stroke motor, well he bought it yesterday afternoon for a couple grand. He got a screaming deal and Scott no longer has to pay storage fees, plus I got a commission today, he paid for my lunch.

We got Kokomo back together on Saturday. We weren't able to get into the water this weekend but it's in the plans for next weekend. Maybe Oak harbor. We spent Sunday and Monday out learning the area and looking for a good neighborhood to move to that will not be too long of a commute to work.
what the heck is that wet stuff that keeps falling from the sky.

Have you cruised up this way before?
There are some EXCELLENT places to check out.
My favorite short cruise... Port of Langely (6-7 miles from Everett). Up the hill on a sunny day... pesto pizza outside on the hill overlooking the Sound. AWESOME view and GREAT pizza! Moorage is free until 3:00 and lunch is an easy 2-3 deal from Everett. Great short trip.

Isn't that THE best FREE view in the Sound? I tell ya... Ice cold beer... piping hot (and CHEAP) pizza on a summer's afternoon.
Priceless. :)

The only cruising we did up here was 3 years ago. We did a BB charter out of Annacortis. But it looks like we will be looking at houses this weekend. I miss my boat.
Pizza and beer with a view sounds good though.

I spent Memorial weekend in Las Vegas. Saw David Copperfield, very good show...saw Cirque du Soleil's ZUMANITY....WOW! That was a great show. I highly recommend it. Hit Studio 54, Tabu and The Big Apple lounge...
Had a great time! I'm done with Vegas for awhile now...time to go boating.

First launch of the season and since we are not keeping the boat in the water this summer..too much travel planned...anyway: put in at Sauvie Island on the Mult. Channel cruised 1/2 mile to Hadley landing and spent two nights with the Osprey, Bald Eagles, herons etc...then on to St. Helens City dock (2 nights) bumped into old friends and saw Pirates of Carrib. then moved over to Sand Island for another night ...my son and his girlfriend brought tent and camped out...nice time
The bad news: the dock went one way the boat another and as I was stepping ashore I slipped....grabbed the steel piling with my arm and tore off my bicep muscle at the elbow...what a bummer. (meeting the surgeon friday and what I hear is a 6week stint in a sling and several months more on lite duty....) Might not be too much boating this summer and the Inka Trail trek to Maccu Piccu might need to be cancelled as well...crap!

Sam3388, wereyou on G dock? I didn't see your boat. Of course, I mostly vegged all weekend aboard.
We went into that fog bank about 2 pm. We were not for sure how big of a one it was. It was just starting to lift and we could see about 150 ft a head of us.That was enough.
I heard on the scanner ,prior to entering it, someone say, "This will separerate the gay sissies from the true navigators"

Tony, sounds like you need to learn how to relax :-)
CoolChange, sorry to hear of the mishap- gawd that must have hurt. I have felt that tear similiar to yours before, ouch-took me to my knees. I have a popeye arm from it.
Diane, I have been in that kinda fog you have seen for up to 5 hours- all though I navigated just fine, I was wishin for the docks.

...thought Blakley channel. Cleared up by the time we were at Obstruction pass and got to FH just fine.
Ken, your path thru Obstruction Pass from LaConner struck me as a bit out of the way. What was the reason for that route? Seems like if you took the Swinomish channel north, the straight shot would be thru Thatcher. Just curious...

Northern,
The fog was so thick, we couldn't see 50' in front of us. I didn't want to go through Thatchers because of the traffic. At one point I could hear engines running but couldn't see the boat. So I figured go a bit north where I wasn't going to have to worry about a ferry coming up behind me or some other boat.
Normally we go through Thatchers if we take the Swinomish.

Di,
We had G49. We saw your beautiful boat come in right past us. We are boat rats as well, and when we did head up to town I didn't see you guys onboard.
I walked by once and saw you sipping wine on the fly bridge looking relaxed and content so I didn't want to intrude.

Ken,
Makes sense now that I understand the extent of the fog.
We left Everett Friday afternoon to sunny skies and heard people on the radio talking about the fog at Deception. We couldn't believe it, but sure enough, by 4pm when we passed thru and there was still a little fog hanging around, but not much to slow us down...

I learned from a Island boater a few years back if you want to keep pushing along you can go north around the fog, have done this a couple times leaving Roche , it is a more relaxed trip. Does not always work but sometimes it does.
