If you were not out on the boat for this past weekend, you should have been.

We made our maiden voyage this Saturday. Had the boat launched out of Dagmars. Got some fuel at Everett marina and headed north up the Saratoga Passage. We got about half way to Oak Harbor and decided to just stop. So we shut down and spent the afternoon just drifting with the tide and the breeze. What a great day, lunch, beer, sun, and the Admiral, doesn’t get much better than that. Kokomo ran great and loved the flat water. We are still looking for a house so our boating will be somewhat limited for the time being. But we will be getting out as much as we can.
See ya on the water.

yep, can't beat the view and the weather when it is nice...
Since I have no boat officially (yet), I installed a dough boy (18'x52" for the Admiral to play in. Well, the directions said 1 hour to put it up and start to fill it....
that was a bit wrong... had to level the ground by digging our lots of turf, added 3 tons of builders sand and then filled it with 6000 gallons of water... twice... that was Friday PM and most of the day on Saturday. I do have a nice tan due to the beautiful weather...
Frekin water was a balmy 59 degrees but I made it in for about 20 mins...
Anyone know a good way to heat this thing without going broke buying a "pool heater"?

I made it out on the boat for an hour saturday morning to dump head and start the 'acidic treatment' of the tank. Wish we could have been out more but birthday parties kept us on the shore. Thinking of heading up to LaConner this weekend as we have never stayed a night there.

We have a 4' x 14' above ground pool. It's frame is external PVC pipe and a PITA. Haven't put it up for at least 5 summers. I set mine on my asphalt and still had to put sand under it due to the slight drainage slope of the asphalt. We have a solar blanket that actually heats the water and retains the heat quite well. The only problem is ambient temp needs to be around 90 degrees with bright sun.

Saturday was around 95. Clouds yesterday, not as warm. I worked in the yard Sat trimming shrubs. Worked up a good sweat and wished I was on the boat all day!!!

Diameter X Diameter X Depth X 5.9 (18*18*4.33*5.9) = 8283.6 gallons
Let's say you wanna bring the temp up 20 degrees to a comfortable 79 degrees. So... 20 x 8.33 will get ya the BTUs per gallon (166.6). 8283.6 * 166.6 = 1,380,047.76 BTUs! That's just to heat it... not to keep the water hot. Remember also, it'll cool at exactly the same rate. :)
You're going broke... :)

Went to Telegraph Harbour on Thetis Island this past weekend. Absolutely gorgeous. Scorching weather and glass-smooth on Georgia Strait in both directions. Sunburn? Oh yes.

I enjoy Telegraph, a great place to dink around in the tender.

I didn't make it out on the water, either, but I did go for a swim. I have a 15' above ground pool. The solar blanket keeps it warm during the summer (all three weeks) but I have an inline electric water heater to warm it up in the begining and at the end of the summer. Being on Tacoma City Power, the electrical rate isn't that bad in comparison to some other areas. Tried a solar panel water heater one year, but it cracked to pieces during the winter. (It is difficult to get all of the water out of the tiny tubes when installed permanently on the roof.) Email me if you want to continue the discussion.
I'll be in Seattle Father's Day weekend at Bell Harbor with the Classic Yacht Association. This event fills the marina completely with classic restored wooden yachts. It's quite a sight, and most of the boats are open for tours. It's free to the public. There's no transient moorage as the marina is filled, but if you are in the area via motor car, I encourage you to stop in for a look. I'll be there with the Friendship II. Stop by and say hello.

Great read Mike, I met Ettienne his wife and friends a couple years back in Nanaimo. Always nice to meet folks you converse with on the net. Sounded like a fun filed weekend, ya gotta love it when the straits are so relaxed for the trip also.
