Our "new" boat had a busted piston ring (found after sea trails and negotiated a new price to reflect this) and we decided to repower bigger than the current 5.7 but I have questions as to what the following mean with regard to a recertified MX 6.2 MPI Horizon (320 hp):
Bobtail
V Drive
Velvet Drive 71C
Velvet Drive 72C

Reason I ask is the price difference is dramatic depending on the above "options"...

BTW, Recertified means it was a test motor for Bayliner or other builders new hull configuration and has up to 20 hours on the engine. Merc takes the engine back to the factory and supposedly goes through it and then recertifies it and provides the same warranty as new.

The 6.2 is too good a deal to pass up... unless it is the "V drive" which bumps the price up by $3000. All other choices are less than $9000 including drop shipping... All we have to do is pull the old and drop in the new. The 6.2 is actually a bored out 350 to 377 made exculsively for Merc. Has ceramic lined risers, full factory fresh water, air pump drain system, easy oil drain system, 500 hour oil change requirement, 65 amp alternator, smart craft technology (can purchase a display or tie into existing display to show everything (64 functions) the engine and the boat is doing). If I tie in the GPS and depth sounder or connect it to that display, it will also display that information too.

Bobtail is a basic engine - no transmission - which is probably what you want.

V-Drive is an internal transmission for an inboard-powered boat that reverses direction of the shaft.

The other two are regular straight inboard transmissions... The difference between them, I think, is horsepower ratings.

It is so nice to know the cheaper is the one I need...

$9K sounds like a pretty sweet deal Doug. Especially when you consider you're essentially a new boat afterwards. Whatcha think the old block is worth?

I think I could get $4-5k after the fix. It only had 79 hours on it and it will have new ceramic coated elbows and new risers after the sleeve is put in.

Yeah... get the old motor on a stand and startable you'll have no problem selling it. Especially since you're upgrading to the stroker.
