I have had WXTide32 tide prediction freeware loaded on the computer for a few years now and use it to see what the tides will be doing, so i recentley visited the website to check for a update and they did have a revision, but i also found an optional add-on that plays "Ships Bells" sound files on the half-hour.
You can read more about it and download it if you like from here http://wxtide32.com/download.html

Fyi for those that aren't so salty
Ship's bells count the number of hours and half hours on a 4-hour cycle. The cycle starts with one bell at 12:30 (or 4:30, or 8:30), followed by 2 bells at 1:00, 3 bells at 1:30 and so on until 8 bells at 4:00. Then the cycle repeats for the 4:30 to 8:00 watch, then finally 8:30 to 12:00.

I have been looking for tide software for the PC. I will give it a try. I use tide tools on the palm. It seems to work good and I can take it with me. http://www.toolworks.com/bilofsky/tidetool/ NOAA weather also has tides.

I have to wonder how they can fit 100 or more tide books into the palm, the wonders of the 21st century.

Well, if you have a garmin or raymarine, you should have th etide info on the electronic chart and you can look at any other day besides the present one.

They've just gotta get one right, and the rest are just a time difference away. :)

Hey Fred, nice to find another Palm user. Nice program, I have a TX and can't live without it.

Kind of, but there is a little more to it than that. Time + or - X feet for high and
time + or - X feet for low and if high or low is + or - Y Then it is + or - Z.

I just think that it is cool that it all fits in the palm or in the pc and tide book are a thing of the past.

I agree it's easier... but sometimes we forget you can do the same thing with a free little pamplet from West Marine. The calculations are pretty simple. It is definitely cool though.

The funny thing about the tide predictors is they're mostly all based on calculations that are 50-100 years old already. We just keep rolling through the cycles over and over again. I wonder if global warming will be figured in anytime soon?

No mater how fast or loud Al Gore talks, he will not change the tides of the world. It is the moon and the sum that makes the tides ebb and flow twice in twenty four hours.

Quite to the contrary... even the smallest increase in the levels of the Earth's oceans will drastically affect the tides. As the levels increase... so do the tides, but it's felt exponentially. Then... as the tides affect the ice... the tides rise even further. It's a viscious circle at some point.

I've tried to research things a bit, and this was the closest I could come.....

For every average-sized tree that is cut down, there is about 60 gallons of water released back into the water cycle system. That includes the tree root system, the tree trunk, branches and leaves. It doesn't count the water that sits on the leaves and evaporates into the air.

So when you think about the massive development that's been going on, its no wonder the rivers are running higher, flooding areas that had never seen floods before, and creating a changing environment in the oceans, which includes a ripple-effect into the polar icecaps, and water temps that drive el-nino's and la-nina's and hurricanes.

Then when you consider the concrete and asphault that's put in place to support the development, there's a lot of land that no longer soaks up the moisture, instead sending it into the rivers...

So yes, there are tree huggers...and there are sandbaggers. We all know the tree huggers, but the sandbaggers...those are the ones that support extensive development and ultimately have to sandbag their property to try and save it from the river flooding.

On a positive note, with enough development and concrete and asphault...we'll have created more waterfront property...

jeez...quite the tangent I took from a discussion about tide software...

That is if you buy in to Al's story. I am still from the I dont think so camp.

Al's story is mainly about greenhouse gasses and ozone depletion affecting the world's climate.

I'm talking about the reduction of water-holding objects that have an additional influence on the world's climate.

Just got a palm size electronic gizmo that does tides and weather, well tell ya more once I learn how to use it. It is called Mariners Edge by Speedtech.
