Could anyone please advise what size letters to use for our boat name on the stern, I was thinking 4 or 5 inches, any recommendations would be appreciated

Best Regards

I have a Ciera 2550, I have two bands to work with....one is 52'' x 6'' and is white, below it I have 52'' x 8'' which is blue. I intend to have the boat name on the white with the town and state below it on the blue (if this makes any sense), just wondered if anyone could tell me what size lettering they have. As I live in the UK and the boat is in Canada, I can't just pop out and measure

General rule I tell people is to fill 80%-90% of the viewable area. I've seen very few boat graphics that are "too big", and a great many that were undersized.

No real requirement for a set size, but I'd get it as big as you can fit properly.

The Coast Guard requirement on documented vessels moved up from 3" to the new 4" minimum size regarding Port of Call. SS is correct however on non documented vessels.

Here's the official language from the USCG. Our current boat is not documented but the next one will be so I down loaded the USCG regs and manual.

The official number assigned to documented vessels, preceded of the abbreviation "NO." must be marked in block-type Arabic numerals at least three inches high on some clearly visible interior structural part of the hull. The number must be permanently affixed so that alteration, removal, or replacement would be obvious and cause some scarring or damage to the surrounding hull area.

The name and hailing port of a recreational vessel must be marked together on some clearly visible exterior part of the hull. The vessel name of a commercial vessel must also be marked on the port and starboard bow and the vessel name and the hailing port must also be marked on the stern. All markings may be made by any means and materials that result in durable markings and must be at least four inches in height, made in clearly legible letters of the Latin alphabet or Arabic or Roman numerals. The "hailing port" must include both a place and a State, Territory, or possession of in the United States. The state may be abbreviated.

I think he's in the UK... so I'm guessing USCG regs aren't of much concern. And... even if it were here in the US... He's too light in displacement to be documented?

We heard they changed the Hailing Port size after 9/11. My WOODINVILLE WA is really long !

Do you have to use your "actual" port of entry (Everett), or can you use Woodinville? I'm guessing being documented, you'd want to match your documentation?

SS,

You have to match the documentation. We used Woodinville but we could have also used Everett if we applied for it that way.
