Mike, change one:
the admiral would like to see "Go Aweigh To" in a gold flake type and a Navy blue outline and a light gray or complimentary color for the shadow...
thanks...
Doug;}
UPDATE: If you have "Andy" font it would be great...
see my photo site to see what font I'm talking about... http://www.curtisnjrotc.com/htdocs1/goaweighto.htm A good sternshot on the url shows the curve we are looking for...
Current letters are 6" caps and 3" lower case on a 4 foot by 16 inch area...
thanks

Easy enough. A couple of things though. Can you send me the font "andy" then.
Look for the font called andy.ttf in your "c:\windows\fonts" directory. That way we can be sure and get the right look for ya.
Also... there are a couple of ways to go with the gold. I have a mirror gold finish:
http://www.signwarehouse.com/shop/graphics/00000001/SignGold_Burn_Glass_144.jpg
or a cool "engine turn" gold that might look even cooler:
http://www.signwarehouse.com/shop/graphics/00000001/SignGold_SM_Engine_144.jpg
I have both of those in stock and put something together for you in either. I also have a metalic gold:
http://www.signwarehouse.com/shop/graphics/00000001/AM_715_Gold.jpg
I can also get several actual gold leaf film (22 karat), but I'd have to warn ya, it's a bit pricey. ($199.75 for a 5 yard roll) :) Like these florentine and hammered foil golds:
http://www.signwarehouse.com/shop/graphics/00000001/VR_Flor_Leaf-Gold_144.jpghttp://www.signwarehouse.com/shop/graphics/00000001/VR_Ham_Leaf_Gold_144.jpghttp://www.signwarehouse.com/shop/graphics/00000001/SignGold_Flor_Swirl_144.jpghttp://www.signwarehouse.com/shop/graphics/00000001/SignGold_Satin_144.jpg
We'll worry about the blue once we get the font and the right gold.

Can I chime in here, ok.......in 55 years I have seen a ton of boat names, and my advice it to reverse it navy blue center and gold outline, trust me on this when you see the two side by side you will agree that you will like it better the way I picked as well.

OK then...
Here's the Gold Border over Navy Blue w/Gray Drop.
I personally like the Gold on the inside. One of my favorite looks is actually the same as Kuredu has on the back of his. I'll see if I can find a pic of it (Engine turn with black outline).

I'm surprised you didn't go with the obvious font (Cooper). Seems like it would all make sense... Cooper the Wonder Dog, Navy Blue & Gold... heck... it's a ringer. :)
Also... We get enough clouds around here... so here's with no shadows...

I dunno.. with that material at $40/yard (real 22K Gold). I think I'd wanna throw less away, and fill with it. Besides... it's BEAUTIFUL material. I know you've all seen it on high end graphics.
Doug's call though.
Also Doug... before I order this, I'd like you to look at the various types of gold available too (small/large engine turn, florentine swirl, satin). I think small engine turn will look best myself.
Here's a link to their gallery and some BEAUTIFUL 22K Gold Boat Names (all with the gold on the inside btw) :)

Well mostly my reasoning is that Doug is a big Navy guy and the navy blue is a better recognition to me than the glitzy gold is. JMHO
SomeSailor

Even better logic... Doug is 100% Navy Blue & Gold.
But... Doug is a retired Naval Academy Officer, Officers are the "Gold" in the Navy's Blue & Gold color scheme. Enlisted folks (like myself) were the "Blue" :argh
Besides... at a $195/roll... I hate to throw that much away. :eek:

Ok I'll stand off on this one, good logic!

Well, I like what Mike did and the Admiral says we go with what she likes and she likes the Andy font/navy blue outline with gray shadow just like the last one Mike did... (with her arrow for go in Andy font...)...
thanks Mike, send the invoice with the name...

Doug;
You wanna go up to the SIGN GOLD (http://www.signgold.com/) website (follow that link), and let me know what you think about the Small Engine Turn Gold, and I'll get that ordered. I'll also get some Navy Blue on order and before they get here I'll get the finalized sizes and proof to ya.
We were roughly figuring on 12" x 48", but take the time while we're waiting on materials to verify the type of gold and the true measurements. You'll like the Sign Gold. It's 22K gold and lasts 12-14 years. Good stuff. The blue is rated for 8 years minimum. Lemme know what you think and I'll get that ordered this evening.

OK... I'll order the engine turn gold in the a.m. Also, a fresh roll of Navy Blue 851. try to get an exact size over the next week or so and we can get it cut and over to ya when it comes in.

Sounds Good.
Here's the proof draft then:
http://www.iboatnw.com/images/Doug%20Cook%20-%20Go%20Aweigh%20To%20-%20Rev%20D.jpg
I need you to verify these colors though. You can see them at the following links:
Oracal 851 "Cobalt Blue" (http://www.signwarehouse.com/VOR8513010-p-VOR851-3010-065.html)
Oracal 851 "Stone Grey" (http://www.signwarehouse.com/VOR8513010-p-VOR851-3010-711.html)
Sign Gold "Small Engine Turn Gold" (http://www.signwarehouse.com/SGET-p-SG1-SET-1505P.html)
Confirm those are the colors you want and I'll get them ordered this morning.
(Ya sure you don't wanna use "Cooper" font? ... "Andy" has no bold and looks a little spindley)

Doug;
Your vinyl made it in today. They had screwed up the order, but blue-labelled the shipment and I'll be able to spend some time on this weekend and hopefully get both yours and Brian's out at the first of the week.
The gold looks awesome. I think you'll like it.

very extremely and totally cool! I'll probably be off the net this coming week unless I find a hot spot or two in the housing area. No internet at the BQ...

You need a Verizon Broadband card... slickest thing since sliced bread. DSL speeds anywhere you can get cell signal.
Unless this sore throat I'm getting turns out to be a cold... I should be able to get this out this weekend. I need to scare up some tan/creme vinyl for Bryan's graphic, but I think I'll be able to get caught up this weekend. :)

Let me know if you have any questions about installation. It's mounted on clear app tape, and should go on pretty easily. I can share some tips for installing if you want. A horizontal tape hinge will work best. Just align the registration marks and off ya go. Grey first, then blue... then gold.
Brian;
I've got to dig around and see if I can find some Cream / Tan for yours.
I'll letcha know by the end of the weekend.

Well, whats done is done... I like what the admiral likes because shes the one I have to keep happy... FYI, her take on this is that the "G" in Andy font is like an arrow and has a double meaning for us... I think we can "live" with Andy font... but, I appreciate the feedback... 8)

Yeah... it's on it's way Doug. Lemme know if you have any questions on the installation . It's in 3 layers (gray, blue and gold). Install them wet would be my advice. Just float them into registration one at a time.
It's mounted on clear app tape, which will make registration a snap, but let each layer get a good set before pulling the tape. I also included a gold "insides" for the homeport. If you don't want to use those, just leave them off, the size is the same and I hated to waste the material.
Send pics. :)

Lots of ways to do it. Easiest is to install the shadow (gray) as one solid piece (to get the alignment right). Then, install the blue borders followed by the gold. These two layers can be cut into more manageable pieces and installed wet as individual letters.
Once everything is dry you'll need to seal the edges of the gold with that pen I included. That's a mandatory step with the 22K gold stuff, so don't skip that one. It's essentially clear paint in a pen. If you could throw that pen back in the mail when you're done that'd be great.
Anyhow... lemme know if you have any problems. I think it'll turn out well.
