In process of changing oil on '79 Chrysler 440 (Carter AFB). Got engine up to temp at the dock, oil pressure gauge showed good pressure (60+). Hand pump oil extractor via dip stick tube (used many times w/other boats-no problems) began extracting old oil. Prior to this, I had put a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil and ran approx. 2 hours in the bay, to 'clean engine' and then extract contaminants.

Oil out and change oil filter. I put in Rotella 15w40, start it up (stbd engine) and hearing a lot of clattering from left bank valve cover. Noise is growing louder. I look at the oil pressure gauge and it now shows 0-5. What happened? Did I push sludge around with extractor hose? How do you unplug passages/pickup? Dipstick shows 'Full.'

Next day, I picked up a cheap oil filter to put on in case the new was defective. No such luck. I turned the engine over and it still appeared as though oil is not coming out of the threaded post because the filter remained dry. Are Chrysler oil pumps notorious for losing prime after changing oil? If so, what is the remedy. The pump is at the front of the engine. I fear that if/when I fill the filter with oil (hoping to reprime), the oil will be lost when I reapply it at its downward angle.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
