Nailed a 66 pound BUTT on Thursday at East Bank. It took the harpoon and bouy under for about 30 seconds ! I thought it was gone and then up pops the bouy with a very angry fish attached. The bait of choice was a squid sandwich (black herring stuffed inside big squid). Mr. Butt had three fresh octopus in its belly !

Spud--Congrats on the nice BUTT, but how in the world is a harpoon and bouy used to catch a halibut? The only time I've fished for butts was with a heavy jig/bait on a halibut pole? A harpoon and bouy gives me an image of Captn Ahab and Moby ****. :joker:

"how in the world is a harpoon and bouy used to catch a halibut?"
Easy, stand out on the bow portion of the boat, have a mate
climb the antenna mast to be "butt lookout", and when one is
spotted near the boat, you throw the harpoon with the bouy
attached at the butt.
The bouy is so you can retrieve the harpoon .... http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/roll.gif
