Can you get reflective vinyl? Was thinking about replacing the regestration numbers on the boat with reflective numbers.

The CG requires black for white hulls and white for black hulls, that is it, anything else is non-regulation.

Nothing about white or black. Just contrasting and at least 3" tall.

Letters and numbers are to be block style of at least 3” tall and must be black or another color that contrasts with the hull. Letters and numbers are to read from left to right and have a space or hyphen to separate letters and numbers. The registration sticker must be affixed within three inches aft and in-line with the registration letters and numbers. Expired stickers must be removed or covered with the new sticker.

And yes... I can get reflective vinyl. What color?

BTW - Mike Our Reg. numbers look great. Thanks again!
Now if only the right boat would show up at Olympic, I'd be able to throw some more to you!

No worries Ken...

Keep meaning to stop by and tell ya about the new toy I bought. You'll get a kick out of it.

I think they even make BLACK reflective vinyl. I have Blue, White and Green here right now. Lemme know what you're looking for Roy.

All that being said Roy, do it and see if the next inspector passes you HeHe!

I'd tell him to read both the USCG and WA State regs then. Says they have to contrast the hull, and be at least 3" tall in block letters.

To me that's pretty easy to understand.

Go right ahead, Roy knows what I mean!

Lemme guess... you'll blow his Power Squadron safety inspection because you don't know the rules? Here's what WA State says... it's even simpler than the Coast Guard:

WASHINGTON STATE LAW (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=308-93-145)

The regestration numbers currently on my boat are blue. That's the way they have been since I originally put them on shortly after I purchased the boat. So far I've passed the Vessel Safety Check every year and the only comment I have ever received was I should have allowed a little more space between the WN and the 9. Inspections have been done by both Power Squadron & US CG Aux.

I was thinking about replacing with reflecrtive blue. I was also thinking about replacing the boat name on the transom at the same time. I'll have to measure how much space I have. Do you have a graphic of a Pegasus?

The reflective blue would be nice. It's got a nice metallic look to it during the daylight and of course at night it'll catch light from forever away.

Getting a pegasis graphic would be easy enough. Do a Google "images" search for "pegasis, and find something that you like.

Something along this line? (without the writing I'm guessing) :)

Due to the location of the swimstep there is only 4" tall X 30" wide.

After looking for a picture, I think the one you posted is the best I've seen. Most of the pictures are mural style, not B&W.

Here's a first run at it Roy;

Lemme know what you think... Kindof limited on space...

Hi Mike

Don't need the city & state. There's not enough space above the swimstep on the boat before you get to the rubrail to place both the name and port.

The regestration numbers need a little more space for the space between the N and the 9 and the 6 and the R. I had received a comment from a previous VSC that the blank spaces on my current regestration numbers weren' quite wide enough, but they allowed it and passed it anyway. They would like to see the same amount of space that the "N" takes-up in width to be in the blank spaces.

Other than this, looks good to me.

Here's the Federal Regulation on numbers:

Yep. Only has to have a space as wide as a regular width letter. You can place them 6" if ya want Roy. Just cut 'em and place 'em where ya want.

Hi Mike

Are we still on for installing the replacement name on my boat tomorrow AM?

Hi Roy;

Sent ya an email, but I won't be able to go this morning. Some emergency stuff came up yesterday afternoon that pulled me out of work early and kept me from getting home until after dark. Didn't have time to get the vinyl work done or sort out fishing gear.

I got your second email this morning and will call ya though. Hopefully, you're knee-deep in silvers right about now :)

Fished from the Mukilteo ferry dock to a little south of the shipwreck. Came up with one humpy that went into the cooler and three small blackmouth that were released. Didn't see very many others catching fish.

Again... sorry about bailing on ya so suddenly. Diane had a medical appointment and had to take the dog in for an emergency vet visit as well. Long day. Shoot me an email with your mailing address.

Hi Mike

Apparently there's a problem with my home e-mail not sending. My home e-mail says it send the message, but apparently the ISP server isn't forwarding it to you.

I'm still interested. When can you have this done and how much is it going to cost me. You can try my e-mail at myflies1@yahoo.com. This way my home ISP server can't delete the e-mail.

Hey Mike
Finally got yhe chance to install the new name graphics on the boat about two weeks ago before taking the boat to Port Angeles. They look good. I'll have to remember to take a picture and send it to you.

SomeSailor

How much reflectivity do you get at night? I'll bet that looks pretty cool. I'm gonna do my reg numbers and home port in reflective black, and maybe the graphic itself in blue / gold.

I like the idea of the safety it adds.

Forgot to take the digital camera this past weekend. I tried taking a picture using the camera phone but all the white and sunshine, the picture came out all white. Didn't think about looking at the reflectivity at night.

Might make a neat picture at night. :)

That reflective vinyl should catch a great deal of light.

Finally remembered to take by digital camera to PA this past weekend. I'll have to download the pictures off of my camera and post them. The reflective vinyl lights up real good with the camera flash at night
