Two of my buddies Helped salvage a 54 ft ketch. Seems the guy's engine died and he lost a chain plate for the mast. So he gets towed in. My buddy charges $150 for the tow (normal charge here)... Here is the kicker... He has been towed before and stiffed the tow service. So I ask about admiralty law out here... My buddy says if he gets stiffed and that happens, he'll padlock the boat and will offer it to me for 10 times the tow fee. Anyone want a 54 foot ketch for $1500? Got relatively new sails, some electronics and is solid teak (center cockpit). Travels across the "pond" to Mainland frequently...

Uh Oh...

Doug's got his eye on a 54' boat... he'll never come home from Hawaii now. :)

Gutsy guy - crossing over the Pacific "regularly" with a boat that has a bum engine and a crippled mast. Worse, it sounds like he is making too many enemies and not enough friends - bad karma will not help. Let us know how you make out on the deal. I have been watching a thread about a "salvage" involving Vessel Assist over on the BOC. Ever since that Gig Harbor fire "salvage" this has become an ugly topic.
Enjoy your time in the Islands!

About the "salvage" in the harbor during the fire. John, whos boat was smoldering but running accepeted a line from some one (Metal Maid). MM tried to stick salvage rights to John. Wound up costing John a few grand in legal fees and a few grand to make MM go away.

I see he has his old spot back now at the newly rebuilt marina.

As I was leaving the harbor yesterday, I saw that the "new" marina is getting more pilings. I guess thay diden't put enough in to start with.
