I asked this on the BOC site but I know some folks don't visit over there any more so I will ask here too.
What is the difference between the 3218, 3270 and the 3288.

Burr; That's a great question. I don't know the specifics. They all look about the same. They're all flybridge motor yachts.
Usually the 2nd and 3rd digits will tell you about the model variations.
32 = 32 foot (easy enough)
xx88 = Motor Yacht (twin inboards)
xx58 = Command Bridge (outdrive)
xx18 = Motor Yacht (inboard)
xx70 = Flybridge Sedan (twin outdrives)
Probably only confuses it, but they all look very similar. I think you'll find it's about the i/o versus inboards and twin versus single screws.
Just my thoughts... there might be more to it.

On that boat it means nothing more than the year it was built. The 3288 being the newest of the bunch, the 3270 being the oldest of the bunch.

How come you can find them in the same years?

Either all of these folks don't know the year / make of their boats... or there's more to the story.
It seems like in 1987 and 1988 there are MANY overlaps. Esplain that... :)

So because these owners say it is so, it is so 'eh. Since I have all the original salesmen guides here at my office would you like to disagree more....or?!

I'm just asking a question Ted... don't take it so personal.
It APPEARS that you can find MANY 1988 boats that all look the same, all have different models and are from yacht sales places and individuals.
Do a search anywhere and you'll get tons of hits.
If they're all the same and you wanna be helpful... and it's that easy, tell us what years they ran from.
3288 = 19XX - 19XX
3258 = 19XX - 19XX
3270 = 19XX - 19XX
3218 = 19XX - 19XX

I guess we may have taken this one as far as everyone cares, but here's what I think I know.
The boat debuted in 1981 as the 3270 Explorer. From 1981 to 1986 it was the 3270 Explorer or Motoryacht. In 1987 it became the 3218 and late in 1988 the 3288 model was assigned. It looks like all the boats in the series had parallel model number transfers (32xx, 38xx, and 45xx). The confusion over the series number is real and warranted. The last two digits aren't perfectly meaningful in this series, so if you were shopping for one you would need a list of ammenities and engine types to make a comparison across boats. There is a fairly extensive history somewhere in the BOC Motoryacht section, if you can tolerate the noise over there.

Bryan...one thing to be aware of though is the 38xx does mean something to the banks! At least it did when we were looking. If we looked at a 3870, their computer system valued it less than both the 3818 and 3888. I know the xx doesn't matter but in some cases it might.

I recently bought an older cabin cruiser style bayliner and cannot seem to find any info on it at all. The tag on the boat says it is a 2275 sk(1978) I am sure this is the wrong section but it is a mechanical issue. I took it out last week and it ran fine for the most part. Took a lil long to plane but once it did it really started to move. Well I took it out again today and could not get it go over 16. I am new to boats but man I can not understand how in a week of sitting it would go from cool to not so cool.

We could use some more information... Type of engine, outdrive (probably Alpha I?). Do you trailer or keep it in the water? Is it possible you may have either hit something and spun the prop hub or maybe while underway, you were dragging a hunk of debris on the leg?
Welcome aboard and look forward to hearing more about your boat...
