Anyone fish for squid??

I know that people fish off of the Piers because of the overhead lights shining into the water but they are so crowded over here in Port Orchard that you have to camp out at the Pier all day to get a spot. However, the end of my slip has a bright light and no breakwater to block the little suckers from swimming by so any reason why I could not sit on my own aft deck in peace hoisting a warm toddy and catch them there??

Sounds good to me... I like the taste of squid almost as much as fishy predators do...

Other than eating calamari in restaurants, I've never had fresh squid. How do you prepare them? Batter and fry? Do you need to clean them or do you eat them whole? I really like calamari, but I bet they're much better when cooked fresh.

Randy, squid have a clear spine that requires it to be removed first and only then would you grab the head and gently (without squeezing the ink sack in the body) pull the head out of the body. Then cut the "wings" off and peel off the outside skin (comes off real easy too.). You should clean all squid this way unless they are small (1-2"). Those are my favorite and can be eaten whole like that...

I like to shallow fry them in peanut or olive oil with a light coating of egg and flour mix... mmmmmmmmmmmm
