As I've stated on other posts, the Admiral Mo(Monica) and I bought a new to us 2000 SeaRay 260DA. It does not have anything onboard (lines, fenders, Fire exts., etc) except surface dirt and oxidation.

We bought it on Dec 1 and has been at Lake Union SeaRay getting the Bravo III replaced(seller paid for:iconbiggrin:) and we added FWC and a "Mini-Puppy" pump so that I can add a "HeaterCraft" hydronic heater onboard after we get her home.

Lake Union SeaRay finished yesterday and we had it delivered to King's Marine Canvas in Seattle(south side of the Ship Canal on Commodore, West of the Ballard Bridge and Fishermen's terminal. They will be making a Towing cover($600.00 :thumbsup) and replacing all of the clear vinyl Isenglass windows with a .030 Polished. They said they'd be done next week! Fast!
They are very reasonably priced and have done great work for me before.

I have all of my Polishers, circular(cheap Harbor Frieght $18 job) and a nice Porter Cable DA 7424. If the Harbor Frieght POS dies on me, I'm taking Doug's advice and ponying up for a Makita. Crossing my fingers to hold onto a few Benjamin's where I can. I also went to Properboatcare.com (http://properboatcare.com/) and got a bunch of pads, recommended to me on CSR (http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6192&highlight=proper)

So, I wanted to know if anyone is planning on any projects they will be doing research at the upcoming boat show?

I have several.
1. Lines, fenders and USCG safety items. Santa brought 2 West Marine Gift Cards which will make a dent(although online prices seem much cheaper)
2. GPS- I think I'm going with the Garmin 545S, for it's nice size and great display, but I want to do some research or at least ask some questions there.
3. Inverter/Charger v. Inverter and Charger ~ again verify what are the benefits and drawbacks of either way to go.

So what do you all have planned.

Mo and I hope to meet some of you prior to the Boat show and talk about some upcoming cruises, especially the Desolation Sound rendezvous I hope you all can make Jul-18-Aug 03.

No real mods, but we are in the market for a dinghy, a head, and a handheld VHF. Exciting stuff, I know.

Hopefully you'll never have to use all three at one time

We're looking for a chartplotter and a dinghy. I'm thinking Garmin 540 or 440 and something hypalon, but I'm reading a lot of good things about PVC too. We could use a crab pot, chain and rode. More than anything, I need to walk through some boats and look at sticker prices to make me feel good about the old garbage scows we're driving these days!!

I've got a few mods, but nothing major like fixing a piece of broken teak on the transom door, add the chartplotter, add the Icom radio and then resew all the seams in the current canvas. I might hire that last piece out if I run out of time. The PO added new chrome looking bilge vents and I think one set should vent forward facing and the other rear facing, but I need to find another 300 DA to validate that. Either way, they are all minor. The trailer will get a large makeover with new hubs, rims and tires. I might just replace all three axles? I haven't decided yet. So a trip to the boat show might be a good thing to see if I can pick up something cheap and win a dinghy!!

Initial reports from the surveyors is good. Minor things on the hull but the Hino guy noticed some pitting on the starboard engine where the riser meets the heat exchanger. He is faxing me up the report tonight and we will talk then. Oil analysis will be completed next week. So hopefully it turns out good.

From what I know the risers and heat exchangers will always be a concern on those motors and of that vintage, if they have not been replaced you can count on doing it.

I know what you mean. But don't stress too bad unless the risers really look bad on the inside. I had my taken off for the FWC to be installed. I just bought the boat and only 94 hours but this type of surface rust
Before:

made me nervous. Once they removed them and inspected the risers and manifolds(they looked bad simply from sitting) everything was ok.

It may be worth 6 hours of labor to know one way or another, so you can base your negotiations on that.

Here's my after:

Well the bill came in from the Dealer at exactly what I had expected after the verbal discussion with our Service Manager (Erik) at Lake Union SeaRay. Besides that they went above and beyond assiting with an aux pump for a Hydronic heater I just ordered. I believe the aux pump was $150-175 maybe up to $210 installed(I can't recall~ but I know I'm close), but the tech(Carrington @ Lake Union SeaRay) ran the required heater hose, including fittings, and rerouted the hose through the HW heater for me, knowing what I wanted to do(no extra charge). This also saved us the extra $50-75, for the kit I would have needed to do this on my own.
Heater Craft ~ 319-H4-B 3H Basic Four Outlet Heater Kit (http://www.heatercraft.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=319-H4-B)

It's the same unit I had on the 230OV. It spolied us. In the 230, it was under the built in sink in front of the port side passenger seat.
On the 260DA, I will be mounting it behind a panel that is on the starboard side in the mid-cabin. This is where the dealer installs them. I will run one hose up an onto the dash to act as a defroster, one to under the step entering the cabin, and I think two in the cockpit area.
I also don't hope to need it in July, but on an early morning run, I have run with the canvas up (with a zipper open on each side curtain-for ventilation- I don't want CO poisoning you know) click in on speed setting 2 and it quickly warms up everything.
In February a couple years ago I ran in a t-shirt for a crab pot pick up run, pouring down rain and 40 degrees outside. Man that was nice.

So I ordered tonight the above kit and hopefully will be cruising in a T-shirt no later than the middle of February this year.
