Ok I want to see pictures of how you installed your Q

I bought the Magma Newport Grill and was considering mounting it on the transom locker, but the fish holders looks not too bad too.
Any advice?

We already had the socket so it was an easy choice for us. http://www.magmaproducts.com/Products/Marine_Products/Gas_Barbeque_2/Gas_005/Gas005_Mounting/Gas005_120/A10-121/a10-121.html

We added rod holders on both the port and starboard side gunnels. This way we could move the BBQ to either side of the boat depdening if we went in bow or stern into a slip.

Okay I got an Outer Banks BBQ grill for christmas. I have not installed it yet. I hear the magma is better. I don't want to hurt the inlaws feelings. Does anyone have any experience with this? Should I get the Magma in your opinions? They look similar but I have no experience with either. They are both sold at Boaters world if any of you have seen them there. Sorry to jack your thread but it just came to mind. I have a hand rail on my transom. The mount I have tightens directly to the rail and extends over the swim step. It seems very sturdy and for me the best possible option.

here is the grill

I had the similar mount on the Magma "Party Size" round one.

I want to see if I can use this and have my canvas guy bend me some fittings that will snap into these.

Play n hookie, the one you got is just fine... both stainless... I have the Magna but like the Outerbanks simply for the handle location. Magna handle gets really hot...

Todd,
I have the flush mount type that you posted for my Magma Catalina. They do come with "posts" that bolt to the bottom of the grill. One post has a spring latch peg to keep the grill locked in place. I put the grill in place before we leave for the weekend and it stays there, no movement, no bounce, just solid. Harbor Marine in Evt has best price I could find.

Sounds good. I will maybe have to get my posts bent though becuase I'd like to mount those flush brackets on the Transom locker door, and so I'd need to compensate for that angle then it would be easy to cook while standing on the transom

Anybody using the rail clamp? I found a good online deal ont he 17" ($194) and I don't want to drill any holes. The rail clamp looks like it is a little wimpy, so a real world review would be in order before I order one.

I use a rail clamp for my BBQ. I made it myself. I purchased a flat piece of aluminum. 3" wide x ~24" long, 1/4" thick. This "arm" is clamped onto the wood handrail with a shorter piece of the same. One 1/2" stainless steel bolt and wingnut clamps the arm onto the rail. Where the metal comes in contact with the wood rail, I dipped the metal in clear tool dip. It doesn't scratch the wood. My BBQ bolts onto the end of the arm with a 3/8" bolt. I remove the BBQ for travel, but leave the arm bolted to the rail if I so choose.

My BBQ was made in B.C. Forgot the name, but it's a great BBQ. Can also be used table top with its stand.

Well right after we took possesion of Nehalennia we bought a Magma "Newport" grill.

We used to have the Kettle Style on Nehalennia II

I have waited until now to figure out how I wanted to mount the grill. I've done some searching on Magmaproducts.com (http://www.magmaproducts.com/Products/Marine_Products/Gas_Barbeque_2/Gourmet_Series_BBQ/Newport/newport.html) and decided to get the 28" stand with mounting base

I will mount it in between the ladder on the swimstep. This way when we're swiming it's covered and out of the way, and when we're grillin' I can open the hatch, attach the leg (which will stow nicely in the transom locker) and stand with plenty of room on the swimstep.

I got it at Harbor Marine had it for $64. The Captain's card didn't offer a discount on this one. Oh well, Magma's site had it for $80+

Mighty Mo want's it ready for this weekend...she claims she has some super cool recipe. I'm in, and need to get it installed!
I just need to figure out an umbrella set-up in case it's raining.

Cut a 2" hole in the transom... and umbrella mount that doubles as a cup holder when the weather's nicer. :D

Yeah, something like that may work great, where to store the Umbrella though, huh?
Dang....it never ends.

I'd like to know the recipe too, You'll have to send Mighty Mo a PM, as she told me it's a secret last night.

Thanks for posting this Todd. I have been trying to figure out a way to mount my Newport on the 'new' boat. Went to Magma's site and they have a fish-on rod mount for the Newport that i can get at fisheries. Our boat has maybe 8 rod holders into the teak around the cockpit although we lost two when the hard top went on.

Yeah I saw the Rod holder style too. I have two rods holders but didn't want to cook there. This way I can step onto the transom swim-platform and it'll be like home rules for the kids. When we're cooking "Stay out of the kitchen"

Todd, look at the photo below. I use that rod holder for not only the flag but the fish cutting board and the BBQ. It sits far enough out to clear the transom and stays pretty level and out of the way with folks going on and off the boat.

Yeah, I think that's why I like yours is because it's on the transom. My two rod holders are on the side steps of each cockpit gunwhale.

I want to be on the transom
