View Full Version : IBoatNW Burgees
Well... Ted has stepped up to get a burgee together for us. Scott prvided the first design and Bob has done a great job of modifying and moving things around for different spins on the original.
To move forward on this though... we need to decide what basic direction we're going in. I still see two issues ahead:
1. Which design layout?
2. What color?
I'd like to start a poll here to see what basic design everyone likes, so take a look at these images and then cast your vote for our first burgee.

If we don't like the results of this vote can we demand a machine and hand recount? With the large number of votes cast, 8, we have to watch SS so another 2 or 3 votes won't mysterously show up as previously uncounted. :joker:

When is the cut off for absentee ballots :D
I set it up to run through the New Year. We can end it at any time though... or run it longer. I'm sure Ted has some idea of when he wants to proceed with all this.
I am concerned about the color though, and since the design will not mirror, it'll have to be sewn not to show through on either side.
We can worry about the color after the dust settles. :)
NO recounts!

A suggestion: Why not, after a suitable time, maybe another week, take the top 3 votes and have a run-off. That way we can, maybe, get more consensus, and allow vote changers to save some of their dignity.
If this is what happens could we put the "candidates" on the call for votes page rather than on the results page? Maybe even have the burgee be the button that is clicked ...... :clown:
How about we do it old fashioned way...
We vote... we buy our winning design burgees and mount them on our boats :)
This is what's got the Democrats in trouble...
all kidding aside... we can do it anyway everyone wants, but coding buttons is more work than it's worth considering the poll function is already built into the forum software :D

So... how about we just go with #5 the old fashioned way... no run-off, no recount?
Also... is that gonna be white? Or Silver? Or Gray? Or Blue or Yellow?
The reason I ask is with that design, the letters and compass points will be on reciprocals of each other and the stitching and layout may show through badly on a lighter colored flag. Just a thought.
Roel could paypal Ted (or one of us if he'd prefer). A paper check from The Netherlands might be odd at your local Washington Mutual and Paypal would be quicker. If you don't want Paypals Ted, I can cut you a check for his as well.
Why don't we all Paypal SS and he cuts one check to Ted. It takes only
a minute to paypal and SS can post the payments recieved.

I'd rather Ted take care of this actually. He has a paypal as well, but for Roel's I'd be willing to add his amount to my check. Just for the convenience of it.

And it ain't to be over yet! Now the Government has to decide what in final they will donate. They said something about 67 million but all the celebraties challenged them to dubble the final outcome of the public sector.

I'll get mine in the mail tomorrow morning. The extra will be for Roel's shipping. Been pretty busy these last few days.
Roel Jansen
02-04-2005, 10:13 PM
Scott and Mike,
Me too has been busy I am in the process of putting all my "old" Hi8 video tapes on DVD and on a data DVD.
But I will keep an eye on the postman to hear him ring twice! :D
I've been trying to get the same thing done here for over the last year Roel. I have hundred of irreplaceable Hi-8 tapes that I need to get converted and onto optical media.
I'm currently using my Sony Digital-8 which reads Hi-8 and keeps the video digital and will feed it to a PC directly to the DVD burner. It's still a pretty large task. What kind of setup are you using to convert everything over? I used ATI All-in-Wonder card for a short while, but it was pretty time consuming.
Roel Jansen
02-05-2005, 10:53 PM
Mike,
I use my sony CCD V900E Hi8 connected to a ADVC 55 converter made by Canopus. The Canopus is linked to my fire wire of the PC IBM Nestvista with two internal and one external HD.
And I import the movie in Pinnacle Studio 9. I use Studio 9 to simple edit bad parts and make an AVI movie and store it on the hard disk. Then I use TMPGEnc 2.5 trial to make a MPEG 2 film. To burn the movie on a DVD I use TMPGEnc DVD author. Recommended is to put the film on DV tape if you camerea has DV in and out.
What I get is really brillant copies with not to be seen quality loss from the original.
But it will be clear that this is taking some time (understatement) but on every DVD board this is siad to be the best method if you want quality.
The Avi movies I also burn as data on a DVD.
That sounds very similar to my efforts. I went ahead and bought a Sony TRV-460 Digital8. The very cool thing about the Digital8 units is they are digital units that use analog tapes. When you record, it puts the data down digitally and functions as a pure digital, when it's reading a tape and finds a previously recorded Hi8, it falls back to analog mode.
Since its a digital cam, the really cool part happens when you take the data off the cameras firewire port. It never goes analog, so it needs no conversion. It'll go straight to DVD, or straight into Adobe Premiere. It's only a $299 camera, but serves VERY well for getting data off old tapes and back onto more modern media.
Also... all of my old Hi8 tapes will be useable as Digital 8 tapes. The only downside is recording in digital consumes about twice as much tape footage. :)
It also records in 16:9 widescreen format which is a fun aspect of it since I got a new HDTV widescreen recently.
It's amazing how many tapes you can accumulate huh? Now... if I could get this finished, I have several thousand 35mm slides to scan in (ONE AT A TIME!) from my childhood.

You can't point to a link on your local hard drive Ted. You'll need to upload the picture into the gallery for us all to see it.
1. Goto: Burgee GALLERY (http://www.iboatnw.com/gallery/categories.php?cat_id=42)
2. Login. (this is not necessarily the same username / pass you have here)
3. Click the http://www.iboatnw.com/gallery/templates/default/images/upload.gif button. (upper right side)
4. Browse to the file on your local hard drive, and select it. Then type in a image name (and description if you'd like) and then SUBMIT.

Hi Ted,
I'll be dropping my boat off at Lk Union this coming Tuesday for warranty work. Would it be easier for you to drop the burgee off there or, if not, here is my address: 15408 Union Ave SW, Lakewood, WA 98498.
Thanks Ted! Great Job!

Status update! I have all the monies, the addresses, the burgees, and the mail pouches ready for all 18 burgees sold with the exception of good 'ole Gene'o, who has told me over and over that the check is in the mail. But don't worry I won't wait for him to mail all of yours, they will go in the mail on Monday. Ted :D :D :D

Thanks Ted!!!
I never took Spanish in school, but two years of Latin has helped with understanding written Spanish. When I worked as an enforcement officer for the WDFW I was taught the phrase, "alto, manus arriva" (stop, hands up). Never had to use it.

I am happy to report that all 19 burgees have been paid for and all 19 burgees are in the mail or already in the hands of them that bought them.
I want to thank all of you for trusting me with this adventure, and I hope you like them when you see them.

Thanks to you Ted;
I knew you'd be the one to pull this off and get it done right. Did they say what additional burgees would cost if we wanted more not that they have the lay-up costs covered?
Thanks again!!!
