All of it is stainless steel. They added the round connector on the end of the davit that you can see in the above photo. I have to install these and measure between and Garhuer will send the correct size to steady them when being used... I'm very happy!!!

Blatik 8.5 with a 3.5 Johnson 2 stroke. Total weight about 130# if that much... Each davit is good for about 200#'s... Overkill is the word of the day.
This weekend, I'll mount the davits on the base platform and run the dink up and see what happens...

Doug--are you leaving your 4 stroke kicker mounted on the swimstep when the inflatable is raised and lowered? When lifted, will there be much clearnce between the top of the kicker and the bottom of the inflatable? With the pulley system on the davits, it looks like there will be enough reduction of force needed to lift the load so that you may be able to lift both davits simultaneously.

The Baltik bow will be over the 9.9 and the 3.5 will hang near the in/out opening on the transom. I believe the pulley ratio is 6 to 1 so the davits will require around a 22# pull in the downward direction. I tried pulling the Admiral up using both davits simultaneously and it was really very easy. The back of each davit has a cam cleat that I can lock the line when I reach the end of a pull. I have 60 feet of line so the bow of the inflatable can easily clear the 9.9 and still have about 12 feet of line left in the boat after launching. I'll be sure to take a few pictures up close of all the parts on the davits. I am very pleased with the quality of the workmanship for the price, I could not touch this cost wise making it myself. They buffed out every piece on it including the backing plate that attaches under the deck for the base.

You gonna use a strongback type setup, or a harness to connect to the dink Doug?

What's the OD of the base tubes mounted through your transom. I have some chrome bezels that I'll take pictures of tonight you can have if the DIA is correct.
It looks like a nice quality system. Let's see that dink swinging

Will use a strap harness. Will also take photos when we get her back (hope today)... We trailered her with the dink on the stern and two straps holding it fast to the stern. No issues. Launched the boat and just loosened the straps to swing the dink out of the way to walk on board. Then swung back and cinched up the straps... Was good for the first 200 yds till I turned around to get back to the dock to pull her... so sad...
Todd, OD of the post is exactly 2" thanks for thinking about that...

Todd, those rings look cool... Hope to maybe see them tomorrow if my boat gets repaired... This kinda bites not having my boat... and no, I did not clean either garage...
I did blast the rust off my propane steamer for this summers crab and shrimp catching... then repainted it with Rustoleum flat black...
More importantly, I brewed a batch (5 gallons) of German pilsner... Hope to see it start to perk the next day or so...
Also bought 9 rhizomes (hops) and will have to plant them shortly. They take up to 3 years to start to produce but I think it will be fun and smell up the yard nicely once they get going...

Probably 5-6 years now... They make LOTS of buds. You'll have hops for you and your neighbors for years.
Make sure you pick them JUST as the leaves of the buds rustle like dry paper. Then... lay them out on a sheet or something in a dry spot to let the condensation dry out.
Vacuum bag them and throw them in the freeze... you're good to go.

You guys speak of hops affectionately. Scratchy, stinking vines. Nothing more than glorified weeks.
Some of the hardest work I ever did in high school was hop harvest in the Moxee area east of Yakima. I normally drove a beat up old hoptruck from field to the kiln. Several times I had to fill in for one of the guys up in the crows nest (above the tractor) cutting vines from the overhead wires. Wielding a 16"-blade hop knife horzontally, cutting vines and twine from under the wires was incredibly hard work. I'd be more dead than alive the next day and could hardly lift my right arm. I was the only white kid working with the Mexican crew. We got along great. The fellas appreciated a hard working white kid who did the best he could. The field crew supervisor was Mrs. Baladez (yep, with a B). She was a very nice lady and looked after the skinny kid who couldn't understand Spanish. Didn't matter, we all drank out of the same wet-soaked, burlap-covered gallon water jugs.

You don't wanna totally dry them. They'll "tarnish" on ya. You're not pelletizing or grinding them so you'll wanna keep some of the moisture for fragrance. You just wanna let them air out a bit and get the dew out of them.
They make great beer though.. :)

No need to hang the kicker on her while in transit however, it should be real easy if I did decide...
The line is 60 feet long on each davit and feeds through a cam cleat so I can easily drop it on top of the 9.9, then slack the line and push it off the top of the 9.9. The feed line actually can drop to the ground in the photo and still have about 6 feet of line left in the cockpit area...
I'll take a couple more photos of the rig from the boat cockpit side. I've had it up and down about 6 times now to see the best way to do this by myself and it really is easier than I thought it would be.

Doug,
Instead of running your red straps outside an under the dink, back to the transom, run them over the top and down to your horizontal transom bar. If then you can figure out how to attach them (new set maybe, so that both tension ratchets are at your transom for control) to the O/B (Hooked to the outboard’s aft grip maybe?)so the straps are taught enough to allow the dink to slide down then and over the O/B, when the dink is rotated to the port side it looks nearly centered over the O/B to side right over….then down.

Yeah, I was trying to write it so you could visualize what I was seeing from your picutures, but it's awfully wordy.
I do see the hooks on the red straps you have. I assume the other sid has more.
It also looks that you are using them to simply stabilize the dink from swinging around.
It you had two sets of those straps(4 total).
Set 1:
Have the first set come over the top of the dink to stabilize it. This way once you loosen the set to lower the dink, you won't have to dunk them in the water. I can't see how you can get them off of the outboard side of the dink without letting them go down with the boat then get in the boat to pull them off. If they're on the top of the boat I think they'll still stabilize the boat and once you release them and lower the dink they'll just be laying on top of the dink.
Set 2:
Run a second set from each side of your horizontal transom handle to the 9.9's grab handle. This may make a ramp for the inboard side of the dink to slide down and over the 9.9
Just a thought and hope that wasn't as confusing.

Got it now... I'll try that to see how it works. However, I'm not that worried about hitting the top if the 9.9 because the dink is very lite at the bow and it is PVC on plastic for any contact anyway. I have a coating of wax on the 9.9 to help...
I was thinking the same thing about the red straps getting wet. Going over the top should work as well. I use a bungee to strap the stern tube back to the stbd cleat thus keeping the davits from swinging wildly while underway and it works well on the highway... Only had a couple of minutes to test on the water but assume it will work just as well.
I'm about 1 hour out from winning an ebay action of stainless cup holders. I bought a couple of white ones to replace the ones I broke when pulling them (temporary) on the transom in the photos. Then I will pick up some aquarium tubing and run the drain off to the bilge.
I don't think I will have Mark make a connection rod between the two davits. I like to be able to swing them out of the way and the rod would prevent that plus provide more stress on the connections to the dink (transom hooks on the dink don't allow the davit post to go straight back).
If you notice in the photo, Mark added the round section of tubing at the end of each davit to connect the two.
The davits fold up into a nice 33"x12" storage size when not in use... I'll have Lea make a bag to hold them when not carrying the dink.

We are thinking about using the same type of set-up for our inflatable. Some sailing friends have a pair of davits we can get and modify to fit our boat. Do you like the way the dinghy handles while underway? I know larger boats and sailboats leave their outboards attached while under way with this type of davit, but wasn't sure for our size boat.
Here is a link to davits:

Side note: Just picked up supplies for 4 batches of brew, since we can't go out boating we will be brewing. Notice in this thread that you started your own hops. We've had ours now for two years and last year, we already had a major harvest. One word of caution - when drying them on the dehydrator, don't try and have people over - the aroma of drying hops puts everyone to sleep.

Two things
1. Why not save some money and buy these: http://garhauermarine.com/catalog_process.cfm?cid=41
I bought two and they installed like this:
http://www.bremertonnjrotc.com/goaweighto/davits/davitsa.JPG
When I remove them, they just leave a 2" hole that I cover with 2" plugs...
2. I just bought the ingredients to make Tsar Stout which has over 6 pounds of malt extract and suppose to hit 7 percent or higher. I will start that tomorrow... My hops died off due to not watering when I was gone last summer... Small price to pay for a summer on the water...

Our friends would sell the whole set-up for $500 and it's new. They had bought it at a swap meet last year and it didn't work for their boat. I'll show Pep the website where you got yours - that is a good price. I don't think it will work for our set-up though - we have a full camper canvas. Our friend gave the davits to play around with to see if they will work, before having to buy them. I think Pep will be in the shop all night dinking with them.
Now that you've had them for a couple of years - do you like the set-up vs. a vertical weaver davit set-up?

The set comes in two pieces and I elected to go with one piece for the vertical pole. I too have full canvas and the guy put in zippers from the top and the bottom when I have the davits installed so I can close the canvas all the way up and around the poles.
I love the ability to hoist the dink and motor up and it lays flat so I can see behind me and is less of a wind drag if the dink sat on edge.
The vertical poles fit where the two off set zippers are in the back section:
