Well, after a week of checking out the boat and the mystery starter running, they found the problem with the connection harness to the engine. Seems a pin shook loose and that was the problem.. I'm skeptical but will see... At least they covered it under warranty...

Now to take photos of the new fold out spring cleats I installed just prior to the ghost starter running...

Great news Doug! I'd keep that dead mans switch locked out and the batteries secured anytime you're in the engine for awhile though, until you feel comfortable that the repair went OK. That could cost ya a finger or worse if it started or turned over unexpectedly.

The dead-man switch won't keep the stater from turning over. All it does is kill the power to the coil when the ignition switch is in the run position.

Yep. BUT... Without the dead man on, the most it can do is turn over
