Nice bling! Looks like the best fit for your boat. Amazing how some installs only fit a certain type boat. :argh2

Nice setup. I'm being nosey... but how much did those run?

They were a little rich at 500, but are very sturdy :) For looks I would have preferred nothing.
The boat came with the dog,(a golden) which means carrying a dingy every time we go out. Trailering and dealing with a dingy at the boat's launch and retrieval, without having it attached to the boat was not feasible.
Now that I am over the sticker shock, (came out of the dogs fund) i am very happy with them.
I am able to carry at almost any position, horizontal or/to vertical. The dingy is easy to drop into the water and easy to retrieve, and it stands away far enough to give me a fairly clear swim step with nothing to trip over. Simple

Weaver davits, stand offs and pads would have been pretty much a wash for that price... Just sold a set of extended used... that would bump it even higher...

When we were thinking of putting a davit system on the Oh Wells, we saw that system. We found a site that gives all of the dimensions and basically how to make them. I'll find it if anybody is interested.

It must be nice to find a system that works well for you!

That'd be great. I can weld stainless and might build something like that myself. I currently have the Weaver system, but that looks even nicer.

http://www.allinflatables.com/shopping/davits/ad/davit2.html

It is the company that sells them but the drawings are descriptive enough (measurements and materials) that I think it would be pretty easy to figure out to make your own.

I have the weaver system and would prefer those c shaped mounts. If you do that keep me in mind. I would love it if you would make me some and just weld them to my existing weaver mounts. I am happy to pay seeing as how I do not weld and am not good with that kind of stuff.

Let me know if you go down that path. Also, as you are getting caught up with the vinyl keep us in mind. Admiral wants to rename the boat. She likes "Sole Mates". I do too but I imagine that someone already has a name like that. Is that bad luck?

There are thousands of duplicate names , never heard anything about bad luck involved.
Go for it.

Hey Apperloo, or anyone who knows the answer to the following question.

I noticed that in the photos of the pivot davits, they were mounted from the underside of the molded swim platform. However the manufacturer shows it installed from the top.

I was wondering if installation from the bottom of the step was necessary in some applications. Or if there is an advantage to mounting it on the under side.

I liked the concept so much I ordered a set today, and will use it to carry our new Nordik 300 AD Inflatable (Costco's version of the Silver Marine 300 AD)

Our current West Marine dinghy has Weaver Davits, to which I have had problems with pad adhesion. I just had the front one re-attached, and long ago replaced the rear one with a Weaver Arc bolted to the transom.

I am hoping that mounting to the top will work on my boat, because I want to remove the weaver snap davits, fill/seal the holes and mount the pivot davits over the exisiting holes to conceal them.

Also wondering if Apperloos' install used the extensions or not.

Any info. appreciated.

I did use the extensions. I wanted a cleaner look so mounted them from below the swimstep. nothing to trip over and i wanted to carry the dingy a little lower.

Thanks for the information Apperloo. I have my hauler davits now, but I messed up when I ordered the extensions. (I ended up with stand offs) So I am hoping we will get the extensions before we leave on July 2 for a trip, over the holiday.

I like the idea of mouting these below, but my only problem is I have holes where my weaver davits were mounted. I can conceal those holes pretty well by installing the davit hauler brackets over them. So it looks like mine will be up top.

Fill them with some fiberglass and then top off with gel coat. It will look great. Not a hard job at all. Great place to practice a repair anyway to build up your confidence...

I thought about that, but the exisiting holes are through the non skid waffle pattern, which I felt would be challenging for someone of my fiberglass repair skill level. That level is a negative number :)

I will be able to reuse one hole with the new davit mount, a second hole will be sealed, and the new davit will cover it. This leaves two holes exposed. I figured it was just easier to fill these with a ss carriage bolt in each, and sealant. (per side)

I do like Apperloo's undermount install though...Looks really nice.

As long as it is pure fiberglass that is open to the water, I'd think your carriage bolt idea is a winner...
