I thought I had posted this story here but I have not it appears. I tried to search all my posts but couldn find it.
I did post it on Clubsearay.com a couple years ago.

Found the The Lost Ark....aka the "Ebb Tide" (http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=924&highlight=Found+the+Lost+ark+aka+the+ebb+tide)
It's from 11-22-06:
Here's the opening Excerpt:

My brother just called me about 45 minutes ago with some great news. He found the Ebb Tide. The Ebb Tide was a boat my Grandfater and his twin brother built in 1954 and made their mainden voyage in 1955; designed by Ed Monk.
Pictured below you will see a Picture of it Circa 1979 with My Brother Troy, my Dad and my Grandfather standing on the dock. We grew up on this boat spending every summer's vacation cruising the area I have posted many pictures of. This boat was magical to us and a piece of our soul and where we discovered and cultivated our passion for boating. In 1986 it grew to be too much work for my Grandfather and he sold it. For the last 3-4 years both my Brother and I have been looking for it. He wants to buy it back. Well today my brother went to Craigslist and for our Seattle-Tacoma area typed in "Monk". It directed him to this site. http://jps.smugmug.com/gallery/1475773/1/70528394
There has been some slight modifications made but we both agree this is the boat. It is only 10 miles from my house now and I will go take a peek later this afternoon.

Anyway if you don't have time to read the whole thread, I received an Update today from the New owner.
He has done extensive restoration on the interior brightwork
Here's some pictures.

Sounds like we're going to plan a trip to head down to Oregon late August or September
to pay a visit.

He also says he completely rebuilt the head. I told him I was waiting for him to finish that before I head down.

My father is the one that put the boating bug into me. I have some old home movies (8mm and later Super 8) that he had put on VHS and then to DVD. Lot's of old footage of boats and family out on the water. I know that somewhere there are even more photos of some of the various boats that he owned over the years, which had to have been in the dozens.

I spent the better part of a year working on a 48' tuna boat that he bought. I went out fishing in it for a short while after we did a complete refit. I painted the hull and the super structure, including sanding and scraping the old finish off. Ah... the memories! I often wonder what happened to that boat.

It's pretty cool that you have the opportunity to see your grandfather's boat and the chance to rekindle the old memories that go along with it.

My grandpa put the bug in me... His boat was a lapstreak hulled 25 ft boat named "BlueFin". He taught me how to fish (and catch) and I got the bug so bad, he had to take me fishing every time I went out to visit him (40 miles away from my home). I recall once that I was pestering him so much my grandmother told him to take me or else! We went to the boat and he trolled from the end of the lagoon where the boat was moored and turned around at the opening to troll back. I caught the biggest fluke right at the turn. Made my day and grandpa's day too. Cause he could go back home with dinner... I think I was around 8 yrs old. Another time we went to the inlet between Mastic Beach and the ocean at Fire Island. We got into a slew of blue fish and I was knee deep in fish after a couple of hours. My arms were so sore I could hardly lift them. I saw my first water funnel and grandpa got the boat in gear and we seemed to fly back home. He was really happy because he got to sell most of his catch at the local fish monger.

Not sure if you guys got through the link this far, but here's the video I made of it. It is of the launching of her back in 1955. My Papa and his twin brother built it.

Was that boat ever up in Lake Stevens? Up on Lundeen, there was a boat there for a year or so just off the side of the road at a guys garage, with that same area of planking remove. Looked amazingly like that one.

Great Video Todd!

Very cool. I thought I recognized it. It had a for sale sign stuck on it and I actually walked up and checked it out.

It's got some pretty serious rot though. Good looking boat though. I hope they get her back into fit and trim for a long life.

I had a similar thing happen to me. I was given an old 1967 Carver by a friend on Whidbey. After showing some pictures around and explaining where I knew the boat to be from originally, it turned out to have belonged to a BOC member's Dad originally. He sent me some scans of Polaroids taken with his mom and siblings.

It's very cool to think a boat survived so long and still has a chance to see the water again.

Check out the restoration pics on the link above. They did it right and looks really good now. Time for a road trip to go visit her.

Todd,

It's 8:40 AM sharp over here and I think I take some Aspirin and go back to bed!

Just finished reading all the posts and 10 pages of pictures of SeaRays probably is more than I can stand! :) But a very well reading and looking at the video and the pictures.
You got a lot of very good advice, but nobody was offering to help you themselves! :)

I think what you and your brother did imho was the right decision as I personally think trying to bring things from the past back to live again, is much more difficult if not impossible. For sure if compared to the sweet memories that comes back in our minds so often.
Was a couple of years ago at a reunion of the 6th grade of elementary school and saw the girl I was in love in those days! :) :)

Thanks a lot for posting!

I received an e-mail back from the new owner of the "Ebb Tide", my Grandfather's boat he and his twin brother built in '55.

Here's a picture, the owner has the boat in Portland now and has removed the Fly bridge.

He was on a trip to Kalama. I want to take our boat down there this spring for a cruise. We were suppose to do it this summer or fall but time flew by.

Are you interested in obtaining this boat back in your family? That would be a cool story.

Now that it's in decent shape, I think between my brother and I you never know, but it was financially out of the question in the condition you saw it early in the thread.

Yeah, it's wild to watch that. My Dad's the goofy blonde jumping up and down in the tan jacket at the beginning.

We can't wait go down to Portland area and cruise with her. That's one of the "Boat smells" that will never leave my brain.

Ok, Well the saga continues. Coop has decided to sell her. He has an opportunity to purchase a home, and who can blame him.
I was really hoping to meet him down in Portland for a cruise and whatever happens hope we can stay in touch with the boat

Yeah, I hear you, I won't d that, but the current Owner was very interested in what we have knowing the history, My Granfather's original sketch he made of this boat, 8MM footage etc.
It's nice that he is considering us as soon as he decided to inform us before it's just sold off and we lose any connection with us.

As funny as Ted's SeaRay comment may seem, the reality is, REGARDLESS, of the plastic boat brands we own, INCLUDING Jaruba.............The 'Ol wooden Maiden of my Grandfathers dream and the fabric of my Father and his Sister's, our Cousin's and My Brother and I's Childhood is something that requires, constant maintenance, on the water moorage and a back log of $$$.
I feel I have a decent grasp, financially, on with the boat we have and can feel pretty confident the costs are easily budgeted.

With an Old Girl like the Ebb Tide, I'm not so sure.

He's asking $12K

Todd, you did not get it at all, that SeaRay comment had nothing to do with your brand choice of current boat, but rather the obvious cost's involved with owning an old wood boat. Not everyone is slamming SeaRay's including me!

Well, I was warned of this in April.
Today he has placed the ad. It's all restored and looking good.

I just wish I had an extra $5k sitting around..I'd get her back.
