Hey, guys. Just a question, I hauled out and did a bottom job on the Sundragon and right after she ran the river like a bat outta hell. Had her on the moor three weeks and now I gotta dive her and get the prop and bottom wiped off of growth again. I am in Florida and our water tends to be a little warmer than in PNW, but doesn't that sound a little extreme for growth rate. I used two coats of Pettit Vivid on the bottom and outdrive and I now wondering if I should have gone with Trinidad and a seperate outdrive paint? Just wondering what you guys thought.

Thanks-

I would think there has to be some trade-off between the bright colors and the copper oxide in ablating paints.

Maybe you'll need to opt for more conventional bottom paint?

Talked to a marine surveyor today. He said" No bleepin' way" that I should have barnacle growth less than a month after bottom job. He said that the paint had to have been dead (old with no biocide activity) when I put it on. He knows the marina and said to call them back and tell them what was going on. I called the marina owner and he said the same thing and said to come on back and he'd haul and take pics and video and get with the Pettit rep and see what they could do for us.

I hope it works out.

Sounds like maybe a bad batch, or improper application?

I'm sure they'll make it right, but before that type of project it's worth extra time and effort to make sure the product's correct. Sounds like you did and the product was defective. Best of luck.

I've had bad paint in the past, but that was car paint. Can't see how a can of bottom paint can lose its effectiveness while it sits on the shelf. I think it is more a case of not stirring the can before applying. All the good stuff settled to the bottom of the can...

If I didn't know better I'd say the same thing too, but, they had it on the shaker for 15 minutes, can was opened immediately and I used a power mixer before every pour into the roller can. I kinda wish it was that, as I know Pettit is a really good product. Not in this case though. Oh well, I'll wait to see what it looks like when we haul out again.

Thanks
