Here's one of the more recent drafts of the proposed Club By-Laws.

IBNWYC - DRAFT BY-LAWS (http://www.iboatnw.com/club/IBNW_Club_%20By-Laws.html)

Keep in mind these might change at any time. I just wanted everyone to see what some of the various duties will consist of and some of organizational lay-out.

Anyhow... feel free to comment and we'll address those. There WILL be a vote by the general membership before these are officially adopted. It looks like 2009 will be our Charter Year.

btw: A special thanks to those of you who have volunteered to add input to this document and guide in it's authoring.

Mike,
I can see that you have puy a ton of thought into this and I have only have a quick read through but,

No requirement exists that a person own boat

Why not open it up to someone who just has a boating interest? They might not own one yet but are looking for help and advice or just moved here.

Ken I think you need to re-read that again...

I copied most of this document from three other yacht clubs. I think the intent is to allow membership even after person was unable to boat anymore.

If a person was involved socially, and suddenly found themselves unable to be involved... they still could participate.

It's a small concession.

Mike - the by-laws look good, but there are no term limits for any of the positions. Think this should be spelled out, also think "Club Operations, and a few other things should fall under Policy Rules. ie: dumb bell award, stiff rope, rubber ducky, penalties for speaking without giving boat name or no boat...Also if the need arises to change dues - this should be stated under policy rules. I can probably come up with more but will keep my fingers still.

Hey Mike,

This looks good. Couple quick thoughts. I think it would be a good idea to have a "family membership" with dues of like $75 or something similar to that. Seems like a good idea to me. Also, is it correct that the associate membership is only $5 a year? That membership is for businesses correct? I would think more like $25 would be better. Those are the couple thoughts I came up with. Thanks for all your time and effort on this.

I didn't want to hold that down at this point, only because we have such a limited membership right now. We will hold annual elections and positions would be filled from that. I don't want to cycle people out of positions just because the by-laws say so.

Also... if there were term limits and no one qualified to take over... :)

Like most Yacht Clubs, that's implied. Each membership carries the boat and it's crew. I can try to clarify that a bit.

Nope. That is for members who are geographically unable to participate, but would still like to have membership. No sense in gouging them for $25 for something they couldn't materially benefit from.

That makes more sense then. I hadn't been a part of a yacht club so I assumed it was individual. My dive club dues are $25/year per person or $35 for the family.

On another note. It seems like everyone's avatar was reinstated except mine. I tried to go and input it and I am blocked out of changing it. Not a big deal but if you have a sec to look at it.

It's because they are in a higher User Group. They are listed as Club Leadership if they've volunteered to help write and review the new By Laws.

There's actually a sub-set of forums that will be membership-only that I'm setting up that only they (for now) have access to.

Once I start soliciting memberships, those who have paid will be bumped in "Contributing Member" status and more of the board and it's features will be available. You're in a "Verified User" status currently.
