Got nothing better to do this weekend since I am sick as hell with a congested chest so been surfing the net and came across this on another site. Many of us like a finished look on our deck carpets so they may be of use to you one day.

That's great info, I'm also curious about carpet backing too. Our carpets are in great shape with good bindings - the problem is with the pliable (rubber) silicone-type backing. It's beginning to get brittle, deteriorating in a couple areas near where the snaps are.

Anyone have a remedy for this? Shoo-Goo?

I know what ya mean, ya then get that sand type particles all over.
Last time I had a carpet done at a shop for out door use they used sunbrella as a backing, it looked like the used a spray adhesive or similiar to get it to adhere to the back side.
It seemed to wear good for the 2 years I kept the boat. It riolled up nice to when ya wanted to put it away.
I also am up for other suggestions though, I need to make up some new deck carpeting.

I was browsing through some old posts and ran across this. Has anybody used this product? If so, how did it work for you and did it hold up?

Thanks much -

I've used that clear carpet protection film, like you see used on the carpets at the boat show for all the foot traffic, on the underside of the carpets. It holds up great and keeps the sand contained. It works great until it gets wet, so an outdoor/cockpit carpet would need to have it reapplied more often.

Not sure who has installed that stuff. However, many will buy indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot, etc and get the binding sewn on. The we install our own snaps... I once installed same kind of carpet without adding binding and it worked well...

We were spoiled working at Bayliner (11 years ago) and was able to get our carpets binded there. We haven't check into the cost of getting it done somewhere yet. We purchased a nice blue indoor/outdoor carpet at Lowes and made a cockpit carpet and thought it might be nice to have a finished edge. We just roll it up and store it in the aft berth if we are crabbing or fishing. It's really nice to have it in the cockpit so when we put the lounge chairs out there it doesn't scratch up the cockpit. I thought this product might be easy and cheaper, but just wasn't sure if it would hold up.

Thanks to both for the suggestions.
