... err uh I mean Tool :D

HyperTherm PowerMax45 Plasma Torch.

It's fully CNC capable and will cut up to 1" thick steel and aluminum. If you've ever played with a plasma torch, you know how fun they can be. It's like a oxacetylene torch on steroids. :D

This one's actually a business tool. I do boat dashes and haven't been able to metal dashes with my laser... now I can. :)

Those plasma torches are great. Your going to love that Mike!!!

Work awesome when rebuilding cars and cutting metal. You can cut into a painted car fender and not have any burning of paint past 1/4" nor will it warp the metal. And they cut soooo nice...

I've had access to my neighbor's for a couple of years, but this new Hypertherm is AMAZING. Cuts up to 1" and weighs a mere 37 pounds. Half the size of the one I was using of his. Very cool new model that just came out this last month.

He's a regional PraxAir Manager and got for me at 5% over dealer cost. My after-tax price was $600+ dollars under any internet price I could get and he tossed in 40' of 6/3 220V cable and ends.

Can your laser etch a curved surface? I was thinking it would be cool to have my boat name etched on my bell.

Yep.

I have a special rotary attachment which allows 3-axis etching.

When you Say CNC capable, what do you mean?

computer numerically controlled In other words... allow a computer to control the torch head making clean sharp cuts and allow multi axis cutting... the cnc plasma cutting is being replaced by laser cutters but for Mike's needs (and that awesome price), I'd bet he's one happy camper... I know I'd be. I have to borrow my buddies when I want to cut into stuff...

Mike...so you can now do metal dash plates? We need them redone on our boat but the plastic ones didn't seem like they would be strong enough for all the guages and switches.

See that's what I was wondering. I know what CNC was, but wondered if he can attach the wand to make the cuts. Very very cool

Yes. But, I've built panels with acrylic on boats much larger than yours and they've worked wonderfully. If you do want a metal backed panels let me know.

For some reason i thought that was thinner material than what I have in the boat now.

You don't have the 3870 pattern yet do you? I was contemplating changing guages up top first and could get you the originals.

Nope. It's the same thickness they used on the vintage you have. Do you have metal panels now? If so, best approach is to relaminate them and engrave them. If you already have abs/acrylic panels, then I can duplicate them as is.

Overall thickness of the acrylic panels is like .125"

Mike you should get a both at the boat show, bet you would make a killing with the dash panels.

I don't really have time. I'm turning away business as it is. I get to pick and chose a bit this way.

Not interested in much more in the way of work, just enough to have my tools (toys) pay for themselves.
