I installed some aux. back-up lights under the rear bumper of my truck yesterday. They're rigged with a relay, so they illuminate when I shift into reverse OR with a switch I installed near the tailgate inside the bed. (This is boating related, because it'll be handy for hitching and loading in the dark. :) )

If anyone is interested, I can give more details on the relay and how I wired it. This could be useful in an application where you wanted to power an accessory from two locations. (Such as from upper and lower helm stations?) The wiring harness included with the relay is built with tinned wire, so it's salt-environment suitable.

Sounds like it would be an excellent tutorial. Sealed 12V relays are pretty inexpensive these days and they prevent all the extra wire needed for a normal switch setup.

I suppose you cut into the back up light wiring? That would be the simplest... I installed a backup beeper that way but it is located inside my plastic backup light lens...
