Supposedly there I think 5 of them to be built, and then potential for commercial sales. He crashed one last year or the year before over there. Not badly damaged, nor anyone hurt.

A lot of money for clunky old WWII airframe though.

Now... a replica P-51 or Spitfire... that'd be worth some good money :)

A buddy of mine and I were snooping around the airport a couple of years ago and we stumbled upon the ME-262 hangar. The folks there welcomed us in and let us crawl around the partially finished airplanes as well as the one they used for reverse engineering (a 262 belonging to a Naval museum back east).

Yeah I saw a Discovery Channel piece on them. I guess the original was bought by an individual and the deal was they were going to restore that one and donate it to the museum, and in turn be able to remanufacture the parts for the new ones. The idea is when you buy one of these, its a perfect replica of an original, right down to the rivet.

Cool idea, but that jet's not as cool as others I would chose for that kind of money.

Here's their website: Stormbird Project (http://www.stormbirds.com)

I thought they were using new J-85's like the T-38 & F-5 E/F used.

Now... If I could own a jet... it would be a T-38. :)

Sweetest small jet ever built in my eyes.

... something with an F-110 in it might be nice as well... :)

The "Fly-In" at Aurora Oregon is this weekend. There will be a B-17 and a B-24 (and probably others) on the ground for tours. And for those who want to shell out a $400 contribution (tax deductible), there will be 30-minute flights aboard the historic aircraft. 800-568-8942 or www.cfdn.org for information.

Very cool... did ya see on the news where that pilot lost his DC-3 on takeoff yesterday? He managed to get it on a surface street and hurt no one. What a testiment to his flying skills (and luck). :)

I used to live not far from the Confederate Air Force Headquarters in Texas. Used to see all sorts of strange old birds flying around. :)
