We have returned from a very nice weekend up at Sucia Island. Left Friday morning with another couple on board and cruised up via LaConner due to winds in the Straits. Made pretty good time as we arrived in 5 hours, not bad for a couple 38's. :)

Three boats from our club and a random 47 on the dock in Fossil Bay. We broke out the libations and proceeded to get the weekend moving along.

The weather forecast called for winds 15-25kts all weekend. He was wrong. Little wind on Friday, Saturday he was right on and Sunday he was way off. Saturday we woke to sun, then some clouds, then hail, then some more hail, then snow, then hail, then sun mixed with clouds and wind. The wind didn't stop us from our campfire with smores and oysters.

Sunday morning was B E A U T I F U L in the bay. No wind. Looked like fog out in the strait but we took off around 10.30 for the cruise home. Rounded the point on Orcas to head south and the fog turned out to be snow! Lots and lots of snow. It snowed hard until we got south of Anacortes. Cleared up to blue sky coming through Deception and not another cloud until we hit Holmes Harbor entrance. The water was flat as glass and made for a great trip home: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/video/video.php?v=1112394572639

It was a nice 120nm shakedown cruise for 2009 and I am so ready for many more!

Looks like a successful weekend! Nice to get out even with all this global warming weather around us. We woke to snow on the ground this AM...

Nice stuff Sean.
I like the hail shot on the dock. Thanks for sharing.

Looked like a great trip.

I'm itching to get out again soon myself- been busy with early spring cleaning after some home upgrades.
Looks like Bremerton on March 20th with the YC will be a go.

I like the hail shot on the dock.

I wish we would have taken a shot about 15 minutes later. The entire dock was covered in white.

I'm envious!

Driving in circles in the bay just doesn't sound like fun in the snow or I would have been out this weekend too!

Are those local oysters?

Sounds like a fantastic time Sean. I am envious! I was hoping to get out this weekend but the wind on Sat and snow on Sun turned out to be a no go for us.

I asked the guy at Dagmars if they had been busy this weekend. He said a couple boats tried going out Saturday but came back in. The only boats we saw out there were fishing.

I was at the docks at Dagmars Sat morning and I wouldn't even have considered putting my boat in. There were two foot waves crashing over the dock in the river.

Yep... was pretty gusty.

I stopped by the boat this morning on the way in to check the heater, and it looked like December down there again. SNOW! :)

Checked on the boat Sat. at POE and there was 50 MPH winds while we were there.
Had 2 lines from the Blow boat next to us break loose and one of them was wraped around our VHF ant. With the winds howling it almost tore it off. The other line blew across the flybridge and over the side wraped itself on one of the fenders.
