Has anyone heard anything about a "Going Out of Business Sale" at Boater's World? Some of Garry's coworkers have mentioned it .... Just a rumor?

I heard from some employees that BW was looking for a buyer.
They thought in a week or two, they'd know whether they had their jobs.
Or if it would be liquidated.

According to this forum, they are starting to liquidate today.

We contacted the outlets we frequent, their response was "Yes, we're just waiting word from the liquidators"... He also said the G.O.O.B. includes BW online business as well.

We're taking a run down there anyway...

That is too bad. I prefer them over WM. I still choose to spend my money at Harbor Marine when I can either way but I did find myself at BW frequently. Wonder how good the sales will get. Does anyone know anyone that works for them? I wonder if the employees will get even better pricing.

I think it really sucks that Boaters World is going under. Both WM and Boaters World have always been over priced, but they have been lifesavers when I need a part quick. I just hope that West Marine does not go under. The West Marine in Friday Harbor, Bellevue, and Anacortes have saved me multiple times.

The more disappointing part is that winter was so l-o-n-g, the weather was and has been really cold and wet (like winter is suppose to be, crappy) and boating as a pasttime has been on the back burner for most everyone... And now here it's the 1st day of spring and one of the businesses that helps to keep those boats working properly and looking their best is going out of business.. sad, very sad indeed. It's really too bad they couldn't hold on for just a few more weeks...

And hopefully other popular boat and marine supply outlets aren't planning to follow suit.

I was there about a week or so ago. The person that helped my had just started because he lost his job (I forget where) and took this because he was a boater and was knowledgable.
Looks like he will be bit again... Poor guy. He seemed really nice.

I went there today after work. They have the "Going out of Business" Signs posted already. They are having 10-30% off of all of their stuff. The employee working there told me that once they get all of the boxes unpacked from the warehouse, they will have better sales. He was very bitter and I completely understand.

I stopped into the the Everett store Friday afternoon. They had the signs on the floor ready to hang up. I'll keep an eye on this liquidation. They have a Garmin chart I'd like to buy. Right now it's 10% off, I'll see if the liquidation drops more and see if I can get a bargain on one.

I agree that both WM and Boater's world are the best prices, but to Me West Marine has one everywhere we may need one.

I'll swing by the Southcenter store this week. Typically the prices are up 10% to 30% before they mark them down 10% to 30%. At least that's been my experience with these "liquidation" sales. Possibly they will have better prices towards the end right when they need to really move the stuff.

Maybe the employees will be selling stuff out the back door too. It's not like they have to worry about keeping thier jobs...

An old girl friend worked for a national liquidator. They were a very profitable company. They bid on and bought entire inventories of distressed retailers, then handled the liquidation and store closings in a co-ordinated effort between all locations.

Stray Cat is dead on about liquidator pricing tactics. They will mark up the prices and then proclaim incredible discounts, preying on the "can't resist a deal" mentality. They continue to slowly drop prices using a proven strategy to attract customers while still maintaining a profit. Unfortunately, by the time the discounts get really attractive towards the end, the stuff you wanted has already been sold.......to a poor unsuspecting schmuck who failed to Google first, buy second to make sure it was really a "deal".

Yep I have twenty + years of newspaper advertising experience and I have dealt with many of them. It was always cash up front they would skip on anything you bill to them. At the end they normally start bringing in their own merchandise, many times it is only slightly related to the store they are liqudating. Take a look at Circuit City at the end they had stacks and stacks of furniture and other stuff.

I just looked at www.boatersworld.com and it's no longer associated with the brick and mortar stores. I wanted to find the hours of the store, but they are no longer listed. It's also a Ritz Interactive company website. They must have split and are now two seperate companies.

I just called the Everett store and they told me just to prevent any confusion. There are some items marked at 50-70% off and some items that are higher than that and some that are lower. Basically I expect that there are no "deals" on electronics and items that do not have as high of a markup as clothes, lines etc. I will check it out this am when Kris isn't looking and let you know.

From what I have been told by the Poulsbo market store http://www.marinamarket.com/istar.asp?a=3&dept=24 , most electronics have a small mark up margin unlike other items in the store.

I just went to the Burlington store. No signs or offers I saw at 50-70%. 10 - 50% was the only theme, and that is a "whole lot of 10's" and very few 50's with a lot of stickers inflated. Prices still heavily favor the liquidator, who probably paid 25 cents on the dollar for the total systemwide inventory and is reaping a nice profit right now. Shoppers - do continue to be very wary.

This kind of stuff drives me crazy. Freakin' criminals. I was in the Southcenter store earlier this week too and there's a nice guy working there, but there are certainly no deals there.

They'll take advantage of a few who think they're getting a deal for another month and then the discounts will increase. I'm sure they only have until June or abouts.

I was there yesterday and got some good deals. Mostly just 20% off still but I picked up a new grill for the BBQ, new double horn (so my horn is less whimpy) and some other miscelaneaous things. There was a Lowrance GPS, Radar, Chartplotter there that said retails at 2259 and was marked down to 1569. Only I looked behind it and the original retail price (not marked down at all) was $1799. Liars!! Then I went to Joes and most things were 20% off but their prices were 20% lower than BW before the discount. In any case I got a few new things to play with.

Garry shopped SC BW today, found a pretty good deal on stainless steel antenna swivel thingy's he's been watching for a while - original price $42 each ... he picked them up for $14.95 each! Other than that some wiring stuff and odds/ends. All clothing is all 50% off but is that after the regular price or the marked up by 50% price?

Kinda figure are just like any other store with advertised discounts - they mark prices up then give a discount of less.... thbbbbb!!! Maybe toward the end it'll be better we'll see... If they'd lowered prices to begin with they may all still be open :?

I stopped in at Southcenter, found a few odds/ends we needed to replace and couldn't live without. I spoke with the person behind the counter about the closings, he told me the last day for Everett is Monday, he was unsure about SC or the others. Said each store has its own closing date and the deals (percentage off) were given to each store individually each day. I guess that remains to be seen.

Didn't see alot of real good buys, not yet anyway... quite a few things were still at or near their regular price even with all the "going out of business" discount hoopla, at least not at this location. I guess the thing is to return frequently if you're looking for the best buys or particular stuff they may still have. Clothing wasn't priced that great, lots of shoes left but the prices were still between $29.99 to $49.99.

If they really want to have an honest to goodness "everything must go" sale, sooner or later the liquidators will have to reduce things a lot more than they are .... and if they're having 50% off all fishing stuff tomorrow, then tomorrow would be a really good day to check it out. Southcenter store is packed with lures, filament, poles, reels, etc etc.. There were lots of people turned away at the door after they closed tonight too.

You guys need to come up this way then.

Just bought Doug two of the stainless 3-rod holders. They were 30% off.

NONE of Everett's inventory has gone anywhere. The fishing gear is still only marked 30% off, but have them scan it and they'll show the new 50% price.

ALSO.... if you have a Captain's Card... you get an ADDITIONAL 10% off if you spend over $100.

Hot Shot Flashers - $6
Coyote Spoons - $2.29

Eric (Everett Store Manager) has been great with me. I hope he lands on his feet elsewhere. West Marine or the likes would be well-served to get him.

If that is the case, then I might have to go back and pick up a couple of rods. They still had the 30% off sticker on them.

Everything still has a 30% sticker on it. Pick up a lure... take it to the register and have them scan it. They're 50% the marked price.

Gamakatsu hooks are normally like $2.99 for 6 hooks. I bought 100 pack boxes for $14.99

I may go back and grab the rest on the way home and more flourocarbon line. If you fish... you WILL use this stuff eventually.

If you are bale to grab me some braided line and/or hot spot flashers in lieu of the $14 worth of lead I could use it. I could use a spool or two of line and at least two flashers. I am happy to pay the difference of course. If it works out.

I wonder what they are doing with their web site/business? Seems like business as usual on there - Same prices(10% off anv. sale right now) no mention of going out of business?

Well, stopped by and just had to buy a new Magna Party size grill... last one they had... 40% off. My current one is 12 years old and a bit tired, the gas knob leaks if I leave a propane tank attached (which I don't anyway), it'll empty over night.

These new ones have the electronic spark starter... Nice not to have to smell burned hand hair anymore...

Also got more smelly jelly... some toilet tissue (soft with embossing (how nice)) and odds and ends...

Garry went to FW store when they opened today. They had lots of stuff left (or maybe another store emptied their inventory?), not sure. He found more fishing gear (never have enough you know) and the last 3 good crab pots they had for $25 each, also got a good deal on an 8' zodiac. And he's the one that doesn't like to shop, thbbbb!

Doug, you saw crab pots for $27.99? Strange they'd have them at different costs in same store but then this entire ordeal is strange.

Sounds like you're all getting lots of good deals on stuff. Do you have success with "Smelly Jelly"? Does it even work other than to make your hands stink like crazy? The embossed TP is nice... SC did have a Jabsco toilet the other day but it was $145 - yikes! that was with 30% off too! If it's still there it should be a great price today but what else is needed with it? (hose, connectors etc?) Oh well, someone else will have to get that bargain.

Ken scarfed a good deal on a Tohatsu 4-stroke. I've got the same motor and paid $300-$400 more just last summer.

Stopped by Everett BW today - They are closing their doors in 4 days.
While I was there they were starting to box up the store!
Most everthing was 30% or more and I got a deal on the 6hp Tohatsu as well as bunch of wire/terms and other fix it stuff!

I had to go by one last time. Picked up some huge halibut squid jigs, a bunch of electrical buss bars and some other Blue Sea stuff. Also got a soda stream machine like I saw at the boat show. Another pile of Coyote spoons and Apex lures. Everything 50% off. :)

I had a speech tonight at 6 PM but had to make one more stop at BW on the way. My lock on my hitch died and I could not relock it. Got a heavier duty one for ~$10. All is good. Crab traps were still $27.99 (More than at Wally World)...

Heading out tomorrow AM for PT. Hope Spud reports good news...

Since we won't have internet out there, will report on Sunday... :argh2

What is a soda stream machine?

It is a huge CO2 dispenser that carbonates water or any other liquid you want. We bought one after seeing Ken's. We make cola and other carbonated energy drinks. Does good with white wine as well. The concentrated juice makes about 12 ltrs from what I recall. I bought a few at $2. each...

They did, but I think the electronics were still only 20% or maybe 30% off.

The website must be still going on after the brick stores close. I just got a "Red Tag 10 Yr Anniversary Sale" email from the .com site.

I'm sure they would. Usually the company will hold on as long as possible to preserve revenue and some jobs. As long as sales are occurring on the website, the trustees will allow them to continue until they settle out the books.

It's a slow death. :(

I thought I was told by the online customer support that the web was completely independent from the stores. I could be wrong but that is what I think I remember.

I stopped by today and got some things I couldn't live without. The sign said three days left. I picked up a 36 inch golden rod for $24 and a decent set of binoculars for $34. Along with a couple more bags of junk I had to have.

That's true. I'm guessing once they've gone out of business, the assets would be split up amongst the creditors by the court (online and off).

Was down in the south end again this morning. I stopped in the Southcenter store. I picked up the Cutting board/ Serving shelf that hangs off the Magma "Newport" grill for 40% off.
http://www.magmaproducts.com/Products/Marine_Products/Gas_Barbeque_2/Gourmet_Series_BBQ/Catalina/Catalina_Bag/Serving_Tray/A10-902_tray_LG.jpg

I also got a bottle of Starbrite polish with PTEF.

Although the Everett store closed either yesterday or today(We went in there yesterday and got my brother a Birthday bottle of Roll-Off and some Vinyl cleaner) the Southcenter store will be open longer.

I have a feeling they're packing up the stores they've decided to close and moving it to the ones left open.

The Everett store is supposed to close today (tonight). They're boxing everything up and sending it to the Burlington store according to Eric (Manager).

I really should jump in and grab some more stainless hardware, but I'll probably not make it by. :(

On line is also closing its website (doors). I went today (last day), they were packing up everything. Were selling the radio display board with all radios in it plus speakers and amp for $700.

Bought a cover for the new Magma grill and another dock line plus a brass hose nozzle... All the stainless fastners were already boxed but available for bulk sale...

All the rest of the items will go to the Olympia store...

Remove the cutting board insert and you have a shelf for baking on the BBQ. :)

I was in the Burlington store today, and the guy at the counter said they were hoping to be open until the end of June. They must have a bunch of stock that is not out, or are planning to bring stuff from other stores because it sure didn't look like there was enough to keep them going that long...

I picked up a shore power cord for $35, but didn't find anything else that I might want for that great of a deal...

They started 40/70 % off this morning at the Federal way store.

I bought some racor filters that were marked down 40%, my guess is they were 20% less then what I just bought from Tacoma Diesel but still a savings. I'll be ready for next season .
Got some electrical connectors and a couple pairs of shorts.
Did not see anything 70% that I was looking for or at.

GI Joes was a bust for me, nothing I was interested in , at least not a good enough deal yet.

Electrical connectors....hmmm, I'll have to think about that. I have a ton I bought at Harbor Freight, with some shrink wrap that was a good price. I'm sure the ones at BW are higher quality, but you have to wonder?

I also bought a bunch of stainless fasteners there(HF), but you have to suspect the quality of those as well.

I went to the Bellevue store this morning. They are pretty picked over. I think the electronics were down to 30% off. I found some 10 gage wire for 70% off so I got 30 ft and then just a few odds and ends. They are just selling the merchandise they have and then the doors will close. Surprisingly they still had some of the shoes and a few other things at normal price?
