Well just did something this last week I have never done with all my other boats. I bought tow insurance. For that just in case I need it. Being I have a couple trips planned thought it was cheap coverage.
Paid just under a hundred bucks and received a voucher for 20 bucks off at WM when spending over a hundred bucks- already used it.
Just hope I do not need the tow.

with all my trailer problems lately, I have the extended tow package and you are right... nice to know you are covered ... just in case...

Yeah... what was your bill from Friday Harbor that time Scott? $900 or something. That's a LOT of membership cards. Not to mention the time and hassles.
Money well spent in most cases.

That sounds about right. Make sure you check your insurance, I found out after the fact that State Farm would have paid for the tow.

I mention it to everyone with a boat policy that there is coverage for towing.
I always wondered what would happen in Chelan if I need a tow from up lake. No cell service or VHF.
I've towed my share of other boats back down!

Last summer I saw a Vessel Assist boat just west of Manson on Lake Chelan. Ken, you're right about no cell coverage. If someone needs a tow from uplake, just hope there are enough people monitoring Ch 16 to get the message relayed downlake.

What are the particular on that Ken?
You might just sell me a policy sooner or later... :)

That's why I said sooner or later...
Besides... I don't think Ken would be wanting to insure the old Carver... :)

Emergency Service Coverage is automatically included for $100, you can up it to $500 for about $5 a year, per incendent!
Mechanical labor at the place of breakdown.
Towing to the nearest service point where necessary repairs can be
made.
Towing it out if it is stuck.
Delivery of fuel, oil, battery or change of tire. (We do not pay for
the cost of the item itself.)
Sorry for the late post , but since I'm at work more than home I we shut down our home connection!

Which of that is for the boat? You say "towing" but are you talking about the boat or truck & trailer?

Covers the boat and trailer. (as long as it's on the policy)
Most people don't know that the trailer has coverage as well!

The towing is for the boat, I had a claim for delivery of a tire to a customer, summited the bill - paid for the labor and delvery charge but not the cost of the tire!

Roger that Steve, I heard the same thing coming home yesterday-infact when i pulled into Breakwater for fuel fill i was over hanging and partial blocking a tow assist vessel- i called out before docking and he said go ahead in-we could move me if needed to- sure enough he got a call but was able to slip past me.

Well , just got my official membership card in the mail today along with about 6 to 7 stickers to paste around the boat showing the boat is member and then a reward for theft stickers-this along with my 4 new orange sticker for license tabs for boat and tender, then I need to get me back in the usa sticker when I come down from canada- just look for the boat with all the stickers on it. That be me

Last summer at the end of our b.c. trip, our drive broke between Decatur and Lopez- exactly 50 nm from Dagmars Landing. We called vessel assist and threw the hook out(50 ft deep). less than two hours later, we were in tow by a retired coast guard Motor Life Boat .The tour was awesome-killer boat made to roll over completely with six seperate airtight compartments closed off by watertight doors like in submarines. Captn John Junior Aydollette from Coronet Bay(by deception pass) gave us a ultra sweet tow trip lasting 9hrs getting us upriver to dagmars without a hitch. Weather was deteriorating with wind and rain building and fog was bad out in the channel. The tow was freee and would have cost me 1900 bucks! I SAVED MORE IN FUEL THAN THE MEMBERSHIP COST! We played x box and watched DVDs while being towed in. Now 14 thousand later, we are back together and better than ever with 50 more hp, an oil drain system, and remote filter. My break in oil change took 5 min and was like falling out of bed. The whole system cost marginally more than my previous oil change.Im a believer in Vessel Assist, Especially with a single screw boat.

Yeah, especially if you're bigger and no way to limp in. You can pay to have tow coverage all the way home too can't you?

The gold card from boat us (vessel assists new owner) allows for a 50 nm. tow max.

Is that your choice then? I'm assuming if you said "Take me to Seattle" they'd do it if home of record was Everett?
Just curious as I know there is some fine print in there about where they are dispatched from, round trips for them, etc.

Anywhere within 50 nm for free, it is your discretion. You may select where you want it to be towed, regardless of your home port if im not mistaken. That seems to make sense too. I chose my home port because of the magnitude of the problem. For something more easily repairable I would not have followed the same course of action, but when the drive exploded, I knew it was pull the chart and count the tics, guess what 50 nm exactly. Lucked out! Nice tow operators. Lucked out. Family safe. Lucked out. Not bad for a fubar moment. Hey somesailor, remember the pictures of the Thundermustang I showed you at seapups boat? I just saw it land at noon at arlington. It will be on display for the duration of the flyin. The sound of twelve cylinders really gets your heart beating! My brother looks like a proud parent. Good cause he has no kids. Go and check it out. It is in the all composite airplane section. Have fun.

BK...what is the cost of the 50nm towing? We had to be towed from mouth of snohomish back to Everett last december. The guy only charged us for 1 hour ($175) but could have been more. Progressive covered that tow, think up to $500 but if we were farther out it would've hurt! We were towed due to u-joint busting apart.

Membership is 142 bucks. Towing is 0 deductable. I asked Mark at Mercer marine if the contessa was ok. He said buy a vessel assist card and drive it till its not ok anymore and then fix it. My engine had 2200 hours on it. The engine is still ok though I replaced it. It was the duoprop that was tired. Insurance paid 40 percent of replacement, which paid for the roller cam aluminum hirise vortec head small block chev transplant.
