View Full Version : Need to Buy a Dinghy

When we bought Dawn Dreamer, she came without a dinghy. Actually, she did have a dinghy but it was dealt out by the seller in accepting our low-ball offer. The good part is that our accepted offer saved us over $50,000, so we have a small kitty to buy a new tender.
I have been seriously looking at Walker Bay, both the Super Tender and the RID, and wonder if any of you have any experience/opinions on these, or have any suggested alternatives.

Hi Michael,
I have not used a Walker Bay but seen them around often. They sure look like fun with the sailing option.
I have just added a dink to Kuredu and decided against a Walker Bay for three reasons:
1. I am a little concerned with load capacity vs a RIB inflatable and how it would handle bigger water as an "escape pod" or life raft. The tube seems a little small when compared to a regular 10ft inflatable RIB.
2. I have never seen one on plane - they just seem to be kids fun boats.
3. Because of their shape they look darn odd on the back of a boat if you plan to mount it on the swim step on it's side. The admiral took one look at one mounted on the back of a boat in our marina and refused point-blank to have it on the back of Kuredu like that.
We opted instead for a 320 Titan RIB from River Marine and feel we got good value for money. Added a 9.9 Merc 4-stoke and it moves like crazy. Anneline and I took the dink from Plumper Cove to Gibsons in about 2-3 ft chop and it was great.

Michael Walsh, I had just seen a Walker Bay advertised in our local neighborhood flyer, it has complete sail kit and gear bags, includes trailer for towing- did not see anything mentioned about outboard motor- they said 940.00 firm. i do not know if this is a good deal or not so if you are interested in the phone number I will get it for you. Maybe I will remember to edit post after work tonight with number.

If it is not to Large I have a super nice 1996 Novurania 11.5 with a 25merc for sale. I can email photos. I will take $8000 for it. Always covered and not a scratch in the hull or any UV damage to the tubes.
I am looking for a more open RIB for the back of my 44 Tolly (that I can dive from)

Tim,
Thanks, but I'm looking for something a little more easily rowed; I am more into slowly exploring quiet anchorages and trying to keep them that way.

I posted a Walker Bay earlier and also just seen one on Craigs List. If you have not browsed craigslist give it a try. You can choose cities for items on sale and Vancouver is on the list. Just another resource out there, you can also post a wanted add, I do not think it cost anything.
