B17
This aircraft is an example of the American heavy bomber that helped turn the tide of battle in World War II. They give ground tours and rides...

They were doing flights over Seattle a couple of weekends ago, flew over Elliot bay numerous times. Very distinctive sound and a grand sight. My father in law was a B-17 Navigator over Germany (until he became a guest of a German POW camp). My commercial skipper was a B-17 pilot on D-Day. I have heard some great stories.

We saw it on Sunday over the Bremerton Marina, too. Jeff loves vintage war plans so he was excited to see it, too.

It might have been Sunday when it flew over, to many beers and wines to remember for sure. I can't believe I grabbed my camera and actually caught it in time. It was close to being right over my head at the time.
Was cool to see, it had quite a few people looking up.

Yeah... it's been flying for a couple days for sure. We first saw it Friday night as we were headed down to Bremerton. One of my current professors is gonna have a story tonight in class. He got a ticket from friends as a birthday gift. I hope he took pictures.

It was these guys.

I thought it would be cool to take a flight in one. But, the flight costs 400 bones for 30 minutes.

If interested, they give a slight discount for EAA members.

We saw it too, we were also bizzed comming up the Colvos pass on Friday by probably the coolest planes in the air, P-51D Mustang. He went right over us at about 700-1000 feet. I didn't have time to get the camara but what a sweet sound. V-12 Merlin spooled up.

That is Jeff's favorite plane. He would have been drooling! Too bad you can't buy a ride in one of those bad boys unless you are flying in Tom Cruise's Mustang.

My favorite is the F4U Corsair... what a sweet bird... I love those inverted gull wings to allow a bigger prop... (13 ft+) since it had so much power...
Second fav is the P-51D also... agile and very maneuverable...

I used to work the air show in Yakima. I worked the warbirds section. That year, another guy was lucky enough to babysit the P-51 that was present. That particular bird had an extra seat and he got a 10 minute ride of his life. He was smiling from ear to ear and the rest of us all asked if he was coming back next year to WE could get a ride!
My father was a P-38 pilot during WWII. I'm still trying to figure out how to go about getting his war record. He never talked about it. One guy in town admitted that my father saved his bacon, but neither would talk about what happened!
I'm partial to the P-38, but I like all of those old warbirds! They are a big piece of history and I hope they fly forever! My son has yet to see a P-38 airborne! We did see three in three days between McMinnville, Tillamook and Boeing's air museum. It was kind of fun and we have a lot of pictures.

Thanks Doug! I've actually spent some time there but we can't seem to find his service number laying around anywhere. I'm sure one of my sisters has it. We also suspect that his records were damaged during the 1973 fire, which means it will take longer to compile all the records. It's still worth the wait!

If he was getting care at the local VA hospital, they will have that number to ensure he is eligible for benefits. He should have a DD214 laying around someplace that has his service and awards while serving. If that is the case, take his death certificate to prove who you are and ask them for assistance.

The Corsair is also my alltime favorite. I use to be glued to the tube to see "Ba Ba Black Sheep" (TV show) I actually met Greg "Pappy" Boington at an airshow, that was cool.
