View Full Version : Question about San Juan boat charters/rentals

I had a coworker ask me an interesting question today...
He wants to propose to his girlfriend. Idea is to fly up to the san juans via kenmore air. Have a nice dinner while they are up there. The kicker is that he would like to find a boat that they can go for a ride on (captained by someone) and possibly even stay on that boat for the night (as a new experience).
Is there anybody out there that does anything like this? At the very least, maybe just a few hours touring the san juans. Staying the night on the boat would just be a huge bonus.
ideas?

There is a great old but in awesome condition wooden boat that takes a couple or four on a cruise out of Friday Harbor and serves dinner while on board. Very romantic and probably a great way to propose...

Roche Harbor's McMillan suites are gorgeous and you can fly directly into there. Great food, too. I bet they could get a private whale watching tour out of there, too.

I agree, Roche would be great. Could even tour their little church and pop the Q right there. Hotel De Haro and all the other activities they have going on would keep them busy for a while.

Why don't you take them out in your boat up there? You have the perfect kick ***** boat for the trip.

.....another poor lost soul...
Sorry to hear about that. He was probably a good guy too.
Kidding aside. I think Roche is a great spot too. I agree with JW, get your boat up there and meet them. I'm sure they want to be "Alone" but anyway, food for thought.

The flower gardens in front of the Hotel de Haro is where Jeff and I were married. Four years ago this Friday, actually.

Holy smokes Shannon. You guys didn't mess around. Less than 4 years and two kids. Well Mo and I did that too with the twins and all.
We're 10 years on June 12th. Congrats to you.
Friday is the twins' 7th Bday.

Thanks for the tips guys! And I already looked at the calendar to see if I could make it up there to help them out. Unfortunately, as with many of us - calendars get full really quick for the all-weekend trips.
I'll definitely pass this on to him. He's super excited, and this is way different than they would ever normally do, so there will be an adventurous side to it for them.

We had our first daughter before we were married. Shhhh, don't tell anyone. And baby will make three before five years of marriage. I'm amazed we're still together with all these kids. But 15 pets, yes definitely beat by a long shot! We have two.

I think the little church at Roche would be a great venue for marriage proposal.
Thirty eight years July 10, and yes to only one Admiral. I proposed to the Admiral during a pinochle game with our best friends. We were playing on the kitchen table in her house. Her folks were watching TV in the living room. I told our friends I'd propose to her sometime during a winning hand, so they were excited. The Admiral and I talked for years about getting married, but I was still nervous. Didn't want to lose the hand. The Admiral still says it wasn't the most romantic way to get engaged.

Congrats.
I proposed to Monica in an Azteca in Lynnwood, during Karaoke night to this song. She's still the best thing that ever happened to me.

Yeah, I was woken up in the middle of the night by my SIL and told that the baby needed to be fed. She mentioned something weird on our back deck so I looked out and there was a huge box. I thought Jeff had bought us a big screen TV for Christmas. Lo and behold, it was Jeff in the box.
Friday, our wedding anniversary, will be bittersweet, though. Oh Wells is supposedly heading to its new home and we'll celebrate four years. Time to start looking for the next boat.
