I plan on heading to Poets Cove and Ganges this summer. Are there any areas worth tossing out a prawn pot at either place? Or along the route to get to them? The regs say you can catch 200 a day? and 400 total, thats a lot of prawns. Plus any tips on how to fish them in BC would be great. I'm assuming I can use the same gear we use here.

I have never gone shrimping that far south. I've done it with great success up north of Pender Harbor at 400'. They are nice spot prawns.
The larger sqare box pots seemed to catch very good.
Good luck.

I'm definitely hauling pots up.

I may only bring two though. We're heading up after the 4th and will be up in the Ganges area too.

There are some differences. BC Prawns are subject to imperial mesurement.
You have to convert the total number of prawns caught to metric to satisfy the catch requirements.

Ok, so I got a PM from a member "Bobby26" on CSR (local in SedroWooley) who's attempting to join here. Anyway, his name is Steve and he's sharing his secret spot.

We did the best when we set down the BLACK dotted line and still did "ok" when we set around the ORANGE dotted line. We last were there a month+ ago, so adjust as needed, but this is what we found out worked the best. 4pots, 6hrs, 500+shrimp.

-350-400ft in depth. Best results around 370ft or deeper.
-friskies added to bait helped alot, but you'll need to add additional friskies every couple of hrs.

Shrimp on.

As far as bait... any cat food with fish flavor is fine...

In fact, I like to use that in my crab pots as well if I can not get fresh deboned salmon or other fish...

I was talking to John Martenes and he said the best way to determine the most successful shrimp bait is to open up ten different cans of cat food. Sit them outside and come back a week later.

The one that's left... that's your bait. :)
