After our anniversary trip I posted how one of our trailer tires had a goiter on the side that looked like a snake swallowing a pig. Well this last trip out we had picked up a screw somewhere and now on a different tire on the drivers side we came back to a flat. A slow tow to the gas station near Swinomish slough to buy can of fix a flat so we could get home.

So, I'll pull this thing off and have Les Schwab replace it.

Argggh.

Hey Todd -- what tires are you running?

I've heard that Carlisle are prone to easy damage... Are you using Goodyear marathons?

Although, no tire can evade the damage from a screw...

They're Continentals I think. Anyway, I'm a mix and match set because I have been at the mercy of accepting whatever same size/rating trailer tires they have when I get there. I'm not too worried about it, because the screws as you say doesn't care what brand if tire it's burrowing into.

Just thought I'd vent.

Conti's and Goodyear are great trailer tires... Just don't get hooked into getting them balanced before installing... no need...

I think I'm going to get the spare tire kit that King offers to hang off the side.

I thought of that one myself but, just another thing to get ripped off.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure I can secure it properly, but I'll be looking at it this week.

I had to flip mine to the other side of the post so that I could access the manual handle on the electric winch. My spare wheel is attached to the forward post and I hammered the "U" bolt heads that are secured around the post so you can't use a socket wrench to remove the entire wheel and holder and one of the lug nuts of the wheel has a lock on it.

About as secure as I can manage...

That is a good idea. I never thought of hammering the heads on a U-bolt.

Yes it is a de-torrent but a hammered bolt head with a big socket wrench can be removed in a snap.

I think I'll padlock it on ....creatively

Yeah... but that's true of any bolt. Bring a big enough bolt cutter and anything is possible.

My point exactly, thats why I always say lock-em!

If you want a $75 wheel bad enough to go after it with a bolt cutter... you can have it.

:)

De-turrent key word de-torent!

That's exactly what bashing the bolt ends out does. Just a deterrent to someone wanting it worse than you.

A good spot weld works wonders too.

............now that will slow someone down a whole lot more than smashed ends will!

yep, spot welded my power winch to the trailer...

Should do the same to the spare wheel too...
