Greetings Fellow Boaters,
I'm looking at a Boss Dinghy. Specifically, a 10' Yachtsman model with a Merc 25 hp two stroke. To be mounted on a 381 Meridian.
I'm going with either a Roskelly/Olsson RS-.5 or a Seawise Davit system.
Does anyone here have a Roskelly system that I can talk to them about either by phone or email?
Any other questions, comments or criticisms, snivelings, complaints or gripes regarding this setup will be well received and appreciated before I break out the Boat Units.
Thank you,
bradvo

Tony, I had the Roskelly on my 39, I do not remember the number- It had a limit of 750 pounds, If I recall the .5 is 500? maybe it was a .75
In that case I would not be able to answer all your questions - Mine was electric cord remote operated. I think the .5 is the same?
This I can tell you, I was looking at the .5 , but Olsson talked me into the .75 because he said I was at the end of the weight limit on the .5 and I should overkill for peace of mind. I had a 11.2 Caribe with 30hp 4 stroke, weighed in around 450 pounds.
If you have more wiggle room then me then I would say your fine.

Tony, I know Sam Olsson personally, and I can tell you that he is one of the finest men on the planet when it comes to making a customer happy. You won't regret using his davits. Ted :)

Tony, does this Olsson davit your looking at have the white powder coated paint to it? and if you have any diesel sooting at all it will be something else to wash is about all I can think of. My paint did start to crack a bit at the weld seams but nothing structural wrong.
Who would be doing the install? Is this electric or block and tackle?
The positive side to this type of dink holder is the dink makes a good place to store crab pots and such while on the big trips.
Also, nothing against the Sea Wise but the gas can has to be kept in proper position if you carry a portable tank at times they seem to leak out fuel, Heat or mishandling etc.

Thanks, Ted and Brad for your input. I'm leaning towards the Seawise. The primary reason is due to more swimstep access with the Seawise. The RO seems to be too 'busy' with the the pipes and cable to the transom. I know I can get a compression post that will allow me to put the RO further back out on the swimstep giving me more access however it is quite a bit more money.
I like the look of the horizontal dinghy as opposed to the SW but I guess we can't have everything. (It seems more 'nautical'). Brad, good point on the white color getting soot on it... I expect I'll have that problem with the dinghy also. The point of the gas can on the SW setup is a good one too. I'll just have to live with that.
Thanks for the input fellas. Anymore ideas, just shout 'em out.
