My daughter needs to see a neurologist according to the orthopedic doctor that has seen her. In Spokane the wait time for a pediatric neurologist is 9 - 10 months! I'm willing to fly her to get her to an appointment, but I figured I'd see if there were any recommendations from the West side? She's 15 and we don't think there is anything serious wrong, but we don't want to wait another 9 months to find out either. I have the referral from the current doctor, I just need to find someone that will see her. Are there any recommendations?

Thanks for the assistance!

Hey Jim
Man I hope everything will be OK. I'll don't recall my Dad's neurologist name, as there were so many doctors, but I'll find out from my Mom and let you know. He was at Northwest Hospital.

I wish you and your daughter the best.

I would second Childrens Hospital. They are awesome and can also make solid recommendations... I'm surprised your current doctor did not make that recommendation...

Well I am scheduled to see one at Swedish on the 17th of this month. I have no idea if he is any good. I can let you know what I think after I go if that would be any help. But honestly I have never been to one before so my personal opinion probably would not count for much. Then again if he can find what is wrong he will be great!

Thanks for the suggestions. Shriners hospital was recommended over her, but the lead time is in the same 7 - 9 month range. I'll be looking at the recommendations. Thank you so much!

Sundancer--The Wenatchee Valley Medical Center is an excellent medical facility with many specialists. I know the Center has several neurologists, but I don't know if there are any pediatric neurologists. It might be worth a call 509-663-8711 and ask for the neurology department. Explain your situation and ask questions. I doubt there is a 7-9 month wait to get in to see a doc. Good luck to you and your daughter.

Thanks for the recomendations. We were able to get my daughter into Childrens on Dec 30. We did a bunch of bloodwork ahead of time and a lower lumbar MRI the week prior. He spent over an hour with her running all kinds of tests on her legs. If you barely touch her knee, she can kick a 50 yard field goal with the reflex. Unfortunately she doesn't have good feeling down around her ankles so you can poke her with a pin and she doesn't feel it. The doctor requested an additional 7 viles of blood be drawn for additional testing and requested a full spinal and brain MRI. We got that appointment back in Spokane the next day on Dec 31, so he's looked at that and now needs to schedule additional testing at the U of W. I'd feel safer at the Vet center at WSU! Anyway, so far nothing has shown up in the MRI's and I don't remember what the blood tests revealed. So the two additional tests will be done to check nerve conductivity and something else....

I just wanted to say Thanks for the recommendations. The doctor called us on New Years Eve and again on Sunday night around 10:00 PM after he'd received the MRI results. He's amazing and the only doctor at Childrens that does the testing we need. I think he's scratching his head a bit too at this point.

Good to know you are in good hands. Glad at least you are getting negative results... better than not knowing anything at all and it eliminates the big stuff that normally hits kids her age. Even though you are still in the dark, there is light at the end of the tunnel. We'll keep her in our prayers. Can you pass on her name? Makes it nicer to put a name with a prayer... All the best!

Jim--I'm glad everything has turned up normal. Children's Hospital and its docs are the best. Our daughter spent the her first 5 days in Childrens. I was with her all day and most of the night for those days. The nurses and pediatricians were wonderful. Tell you daughter to not wear high-heal shoes until her doc figures out what is causing the problem. She doesn't need to put additional postural stress on her spine.

Doug and Randy, thanks for your thoughts and suggestions. Michelle is in good hands and we're glad! As far as the high heel shoes, I don't think she owns a pair? If she did, I'd be throwing them out with the garbage each week!

I will keep Michelle and your family in my prayers too. There is nothing tougher than to see your own kids struggling.

BTW my daughter also named Michelle just turned 25 today. Daddy’s girls no matter how old they get are still Daddy’s girls.
